And most of that drive was just the defense trading yardage for time. As soon as we got inside the 15 and they played it straight up we were totally incapable of doing anything, shocker.

Dak throwing it out of the back of the end zone instead of properly putting it up for grabs on 4th down when we had nothing to lose was a nice touch.

The pick is gone either way, may as well make peace with it and hope Cooper comes through and earns it. I get the frustration and I’d have liked to have been there need-picking a WR this April as much as anybody, really I thought they were a near lock to take one this year, and all their acquisitions busted. Their main FA target they missed on is like 500 yds 3TDs for the Chiefs right now in 9 games. So I don’t know to me I think they were inevitably going to make some big questionable move for WR, even in April I can’t rule out trade ups, or trading down to snag a 2nd tier type that doesn’t do it.

See how it works out. Amari had a decent enough showing starting his 1st game in a different system. And based on reports now we can at least put to rest the idea that they could have traded less to get him. Right now though I’m just interested in what he adds this season, is he getting open, commanding coverage, what routes work here and how they deploy them. What else besides concentration might be polished up? I’m not inclined to assume the Raiders maxxed out the guy’s development or potential.

Dak...his play right now is in that frustrating zone of meh, even after accounting for Linehan. And a good example of why QB2 and QB3 deserve more than an afterthought on Day 3. I think they may consider a veteran to replace one of their backups next year - they won’t try for a long term replacement next season but they might like to have a guy they can turn to if Dak needs to sit. I get that there’s a lot of moving pieces and a new receiving group but some of these throws are lol. The occasional one in trade for some solid running is fair but he’s missing too many

Was it though? D is amazing, and Zeke basically won them the game.

With the Eagles top 3 corners out they basically did nothing to exploit it. I just don't even really know what they're doing on play calling. and Dak's throwing is so puzzling. He makes an impossibly good throw and then can miss 3 totally routine ones. Receivers were making hard catches on balls that should have been easy.

Believe me I love beating those dinks. But that win belongs to a fired up D, and Zeke.

I don’t disagree with any of that. Far from perfect and lots of issues to work out on offense to include QB. Still delicious. Beating Philly at Philly is about the best thing that can happen during the reg season for me

Kinda hilarious that we actually have a real shot to take over the division with a game against Colt McCoy on Thursday.

In before an 8-8 division championship and an embarrassing home playoff loss that'll somehow lead to a 10yr extension for Garrett.

Yeah today changed a lot and it all went our way. They still have to get the wins but they’re ahead of where I expected they’d be and are functionally in the driver’s seat for the division. I don’t care how bad the division is, if they can take the title in a rebuild year...

Thursday is going to be a battle of injured offensive lines.

Btw someone told me 4 days is enough to learn how to throw a spiral. Hope and pray!

Also you think this is a rebuild year? They traded away their first to win this year. That's not a rebuild. I'd be shocked if Cowboys management thought they were in a rebuild.

I think this and last year were clearly rebuilding seasons, they cleaned up their books and didn’t really dig into future years much, avoided big deals and got a lot younger. Also the Cooper trade timing wasn’t in their control. Jerry was pretty clear after the move that they were very likely going WR tin Rd 1 and liked Cooper’s potential more than basically need-picking a starting WR. They could have made that trade in December if there wasn’t a deadline, it’s a long-term move for them.

Compare to 2019 where they’re going to be pretty active and you’ll see some big contracts handed out and some actual FA help. You probably won’t see a lot of rookies starting unless injury. There’s a lot more they could have done if they wanted to go all in this season but they seemed sensible about where they were- lots of raw players to develop and some holes they can’t immediately fill. And they can justify it, the defense is coming together very well and despite offensive issues there are still more quality starters than holes there.

And if they weren’t I think Dez and Scandrick are playing out this year, Earl Thomas trade could have happened & you’d see them with a few 30+ stopgap guys keeping up and comers on the bench. They let a good LB walk. And partially forced rebuild with the TE issues too.

So obviously we get our asses handed to us vs the Saints next Thursday.

Last games after that:

Eagles
@Colts
Bucs
@Giants

Skins last games:

@Eagles
Giants
@Jags
@Titans
Eagles

Eagles last games:

Giants
Skins
@Cowboys
@Rams
Texans
@Skins

So if I'm not mistaken we're cheering Giants and Eagles. And we probably have to win 2/3 of those Colts/Bucks/Giants games and it'll probably come down to a tie break at worst and we'll probably have the division tie break in our pocket, right? Looks like 9 wins locks it up and 8 might be a tie break?

Division winner is gonna get someone like the Panthers or Vikes at home?

I have this nagging feeling like we host Green Bay in a playoff game. Not sure I can handle that.

I don’t know how anybody can look beyond the next game with this team. They’re sketchy enough to get blown out by 30+ but they have a top-ranked defense right now and the offense is playing somewhat better lately. This looks to be the only matchup with an elite team this year and they need to show they can at least compete before I can start thinking about playoffs.

DVOA adjusted probability of just making the playoffs at all is only 54% right this second, and that’s with every other division team crumbling. They need to get better in a hurry

It’s things like this that make me furiously argue against drafting dumbasses with higher picks.

Some projected it, I was fairly sure they’d just re-sign Hitchens and draft a WR. Another good reminder why you target needs in free agency and worry about talent in the draft.

The cool part is that the only two guys they’re really worried about losing this offseason are Beasley and Lawrence, though assume the latter is getting tagged again on the way to an extension. This team looks like it could be really good with another season
