Nice to see Frederick getting killed in the media too...

Media needs to slow down, it's dude's 2nd game. Those same media picking Frederick apart today were probably the same ones doing it to Poe last year. May as well settle down because it's going to take a while before anybody knows what he is or isn't, same as the rest of the rookie class.

I'm still working on figuring out the 2011 draft. Anybody want to say definitively what kind of players Tyron and Carter are just yet? How about Murray - sure he's a good #1? Can Harris be a #3 or is he a #4 quality career special teamer? Will Arkin stick? How about Chris Jones at punter? Bailey looks good but even now he seems to maybe have added a little leg strength so we're still sorting him out too.

Good rookie centers are the exception. Only a handful of rookie or 2nd year players got a Pro Bowl nod at that position going back to the NFL merger. Relax on Frederick, if he struggles like the rookie that he is then Costa or Bernadeau will take over.

Well that inspires confidence.

Tyron-solid
Carter-ok (him being injured two years is a huge knock though)
Murray- becoming disappointing but ok i guess
Arkin-terrible
Harris- very good for a 6th

That's just how it is with new players. Shariff Floyd isn't starting yet, neither are lots of other rookies from this year. People were calling Poe a possible bust and now everyone's talking about how he's killing it now.

Did anybody see the #1 overall rookie KC had at lined up at tackle? He didn't exactly have a great day. And what about their other 7 picks? Most of them didn't see the field and none are starting. One failed to make the team and isn't even on a practice squad weeks after release. This isn't just a Cowboys thing. Everybody wants instant results but in most cases it takes a year or three to get the player you want.

I'd be far more concerned about what Tyron, Claiborne, Murray, Lee, Carter are (or aren't) doing right now than any kid drafted in April. For now, all 7 picks made the roster and they're all healthy. Better still, all but Randle were active for both games. Those are very good signs if you want these guys getting reps and a chance to develop. After Frederick not a one of them except maybe Wilcox had a real shot at taking a starting job this season. They're all about where they need to be right now.

Of course, if the Cowboys were a franchise that believed in long-term contract management, they might have been in position to just sign a center. And maybe focus their draft resources on more expensive/harder-to-fill positions that also tend to develop a little faster.

Specialists aside, if you take the 5 highest-paid players at each position and rank them from 1 to 12, from highest-paid to lowest, the bottom goes:

10. Tight end
11. Guard
12. Center

Fwiw. Considering the development time for the bottom two I wonder if it ever makes sense at all to draft them high tbh. They're cheap! Just drafting DEs, CBs, WRs, QBs and OTs in the first two rounds would probably be a better strategy over time.

The top 5 kickers aren't that far behind the top 5 centers money-wise, but you hardly ever see kickers taken before Day 3 of the draft.

Is safety 9th? Pretty funny the names being talked about in April were guard/center/safety/tight end...maybe defensive tackle in the 1st. Uhh...

Center in the 1st round pretty much means he should have multiple Pro Bowl type potential. Ended up being drafted 31st but still...seems to be doing better than Al Johnson so that's a start i suppose.

Will be watching Tyler Eifert/Eric Reid/Shariff Floyd closely. Fan of Floyd so i guess we'll see. Was injured for some of the preseason and then didn't do much against Detroit.

Well eifert didn't look super impressive to me Monday, I mean he couldn't even take a starting job from Jermaine Gresham. But of course I notice little to no blocking.

He did get out in open field and looked about what a white tight end looks like running around. Not particularly fast or athletic.

Three catches for 66 yards is pretty solid for his 2nd game.

Eifert has looked SICK! Keep in mind it's mostly two TE sets, and he's option number 3 or worse at times. He's going to be a beast.

Eric Reid wasn't a consideration for the #18 pick, they graded him somewhat lower. One thing to remember with all of these coulda-shoulda picks at #18, they'll be compared to both Frederick and Williams with that reverse-Claiborne trade move they did.

J.J. Wilcox will be starting at safety Sunday, which I think is more a reflection of how Will Allen's been playing. Not that you'd expect much from a 10 year backup making the minimum, but I am glad to see rookies getting some field time. I don't expect him to be any better though at least at first.

Georgia Southern represent! I'll be hoping for a good game out of him. I went to GSU for two years after high school (grew up in south GA obv) </coolstorybro>

Tyron is much better then "solid". Hes only 22, and has a chance to be elite. Amazing athlete and has a perfect build for a LT

Carter obv has had injury issues but hes been our best LB when healthy. 2 sacks this year and is all over the field.

2011 draft could be one of our best drafts in past 5 years

Comparing them to their draft slot. Tyron as a #9 overall pick is solid so far which means he's a damn good player but not mega elite..yet.

I think Tyron makes the jump to elite LT this year.

Great game by our Defense. 6 sacks on an O-line that hasnt allowed a sack all year coming into this game. Ware manhandled Long, Hatcher was a beast. Overall this is one of the best Defense efforts ive seen from this team in the past 2-3 years.
