I really don't see Peyton Manning or Tom Brady spiking it there.

Yeah, but Peyton/Tom would also have Wayne/Moss to throw that jump ball to. Those guys are gamers, they wouldn't even need a "play". The Cowboys don't have those kinds of players, we saw that last week when we ran two straight fades from the 1 and neither one worked.

My understanding is that we're hoping for week 7 against ATL which is after the bye week. We're really missing that explosiveness right about now.

Why is the quality of execution so ****ty the past couple of weeks? These ****tards can't keep turning the ball over and expect to beat ANYONE in this league.

I'm so ****ing disgusted with them right now!

I saw some promise this week in a few series. But the penalty thing is going to cost Wade his job. There's no way that doesn't fall on him. Players have to be SMARTER.

It's guys on the defensive side too. The drive where KC tied it up would've likely stalled if not for a personal foul penalty on 3rd and a mile.

Is there anything better than getting the bye and watching all the teams in your division lose? Man that was beautiful.

Great win today, the best I've seen them look in a long time. The Romo-Austin connection seems legit.

Sorry I didn't add my 2 cents yesterday. Got caught up in all the Yankee euphoria.

I'm glad to see that they finally put together a solid effort on both sides of the ball against a good team. That win should go a long way. They needed a "statement" game.

With that said, the only BAD I saw in the game yesterday was Bobby Carpenter. When are the Cowboys gonna figure out this guy isn't worth ****. They need to cut his sorry ass and move on. How many linebackers in the NFL get pushed back 5 yards by a blocker or a running back. Ok, now how many get pushed around when you are the 3rd guy they hit in the play? He just looks completely lost out there, and can't do anything to save his job.

I say cut your losses with him and move on. Maybe AL Davis is senile to make a trade for a draft pick???

I have to disagree ever so slightly. He's pretty decent in pass coverage imo. He was matched against one of the best TEs in NFL history, more than a few times, and by and large did a good job against him. He's also been a pretty good ST guy as well. Was he worth the spot he was drafted in? Absolutely not. But he's not a complete and total liability iyam.

He's a mediocre nickel back and a good special teamer.

Worth a 1st rounder, lol no.

Worth a roster spot? Obv.

Even this is debatable. I think it's more a matter of giving him "one more year" in hopes he'll finally blossom. Mediocre is being a bit kind, even for his limited role. He's not a huge cap issue to either keep or dump next year, but if he doesn't get real solid in '09 I can't see him coming back. Next year your you're either paying him $2.7M, or cutting him and eating $1.5m where this year getting rid of him would have been about $3m so maybe I can understand.

Worth a 4th at best. I'm thinking more likely a 5th or 6th as is, but he has looked ok the last couple of games. Let the year play out - who knows maybe he'll explode, finally.

I disagree. I think we're past the stage of the coaches believing he's going to be anything more than a solid backup/special teamer. But I think he'll stick around the team because he knows his role, is popular around the locker room, and we have nobody to replace him with.

We've already been hurt by letting Burnett go, we'll make an effort to keep him, and surely nobody else will offer him much.

I could maybe see them keeping him for the last year of his contract (though I don't think they will esp if uncapped), but not resigning him. I think how Jason Williams does will make the only difference between whether they add a solid vet or use another pick for a MLB prospect next year (more likely). They've got room to resign Austin to whatever, then Sensabaugh, and a couple of the DL guys and the team is solid so I think Capenter's going to be getting pushed by a rookie even next year. I wouldn't bet that he'd be able to beat out a given 4th rounder or w/e.

But he'd make it a lot easier on everyone by just getting it together and showing something.

HELL YES! This team is really starting to look good. Hopefully they can carry this momentum forward the rest of the season. Huge props to Mike Jenkins and Victor Butler for stepping up and making some key defensive plays.

[Random topic to keep thread going]

If the season were to suddenly end today (for whatever hypothetical reason), what do you suppose the best off-season free agency/draft strategy would be for Dallas?

The free agent list is: QB Jon Kitna, WR Miles Austin, WR Sam Hurd, WR Kevin Ogletree, Pat McQuistan, G/C Cory Proctor, G Montrae Holland, DE Marcus Spears, DE Jason Hatcher, DE Steven Bowen, NT Junior Siavii, CB Alan Ball, S Gerald Sensabaugh, S Pat Watkins.

For my part, Austin and Sensabaugh are the two must-resign players, as are at least two of the backup defensive lineman. I'd be happy to keep Spears, Ball, Watkins too but only if they're very reasonable. I'd be fine with Kitna coming back as back up QB unless a great prospect fell in the draft or something.

As far as the draft there isn't a lot of roster room and we have 3 hurt rookies, at least 2 of whom we won't see until next year anyway (an OLB, MLB and a G).

Some players on the team are under contract beyond next year, but will face hardcore competition for their jobs - Carpenter comes to mind (lucked out a bit this year with rookie LBs going to IR). I like Nick Folk but he'd better stay solid and hope Buehler doesn't improve his FG accuracy.

I don't believe teams are allowed to lay eggs in football. This performance today is totally inexcusable, and just ****ing pathetic.

Lots of dumb penalties (which is the hallmark of this team, and any Wade Phillips team). Can't get off the field on 3rd down. Tons of missed tackles (I'm looking at you again Bobby Carpenter). And the offensive line did their best imitation of tackling dummys all game, since GB was constantly 3 yards into the backfield every play. If Guroude wasn't 100%, and he was beat all game, he shouldn't have played.

You had a chance to get 2 games up in the East and you totally blew it by acting like you didn't even belong on the field. Now you lose a tiebreaker to a team that will be there down the stretch for a wild card. But if this is what December is going to look like from this team, as have the last 15 or so Decembers, it won't matter anyway.

What's funny is how good Roy's game looks in the stat sheet versus how terrible he was. And Carpenter... what else is new. A sack is nice, perhaps he might be interested in making a few standard tackles at some point.

Folk... I still think he's a good kicker and all, but I wonder how much room for error he has. He's under 80% at the moment, and I recall they were talking about bringing Buehler in for long-range kicks in addition to kickoffs. Roster could get a little tight next year I think unless Buehler just sucks short- and med-range. I doubt Folk can afford to miss money kicks, and he had a shaky kick last week against the Eagles IIRC, but it was good. Wondering if the injury thing still bothers him or what. Here I thought early this season Buehler would be the one they have to justify keeping.

El Gonso, your so right about Roy. It looks like, on paper, he had a good game, when in reality, he probably was a major factor in them losing.

He bums me out so ****ing much.

Given there's a good chance of next year being uncapped, I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him get dumped sometime in the 2010 season unless he starts showing something. JJ would have to eat something like $18 million, but without a cap it won't hurt otherwise.

I thought he was somewhat overrated/overpaid when they signed him, but I had no idea it would be this bad. I figured he'd be an okay #2 or a low-end #1 type that would benefit from the rest of the offense. But every week there's 5 articles about how it will start jelling any time now.

Crayton's been a much more productive WR and needs to be starting, if Roy comes around and shows something at #3 then he can get his spot back. It's not like he's Steve Smith who's had a couple bad games or something.
