Hopefully can bring in Brandon Carr. Anything less I'm blaming on Anthony Spencer.

Looks like we're losing 10M in cap space over the next two years because we front loaded deals during the uncapped year. There goes any offseason plans.

No it's $10m total, that we can split over the next two years how we want. Sucks but not the end of the world. It was probably Miles Austin's deal.

Yeah it's kind of a setback to lose somebody **cough cough Anthony Spencer cough** but we'll manage. Unless JJ decides to pay it next year

Really not happy about the news, but if there's a silver lining anywhere in this it's that we'll get a better look at a few younger cheaper guys that we might now have otherwise. Maybe we can find a decent one in there we'd have missed otherwise.

First order of business I think is to get Spencer his mild long term deal or revoke the tender. Then start crossing off some possibilities at backup QB and FA guards unless a very good late value presents itself (a cheaper Hutch might actually work out by the way). Forget bringing McBriar back to punt. Say goodbye to Buehler also. And Brooking.

FA corner and a cheaper OLB + Butler will have to do, and need a safety. Keep Robinson if reasonable. It's not pretty but at least we have draft picks.

Will wait until I see how FA/the draft shakes out before I throw things across the room.

I think with less cap space I'm even more determined we don't need Robinson. Or at least he's more expendable than not getting another CB, S, and possibly some D line help. I guess my Nicks dreams are over, so I'll just hope one of the young guys pans out. Gulp.

WTF are we doing at ILB? Obviously Lee, then we have a 2nd year guy who hasn't played, and nobody.

They were talking about Brooking coming back, which I am just completely against unless they're talking the minimum. Which for him is close to $1m. I'm looking for any rookie or Orie Lemon to show just any kind of flash.

Robinson is a matter of money and the rest of the league just got a little extra cap space. He needs to get an offer from us. Dwayne Harris didn't even make the final cut as a rookie last year so I'm not that optimistic, rest are meh. We've got to make an offer on him at least, if he gets $8m from somebody then there's not much we can do.

Im a little confused by this. Wasnt what they did with Austins contract a loophole but still legal. Doesnt the NFL approve all contracts? How are they getting punished for an oversight by the league?

I dunno. Angry small market owners outnumbered them I guess.

Florio over at PFT actually said something worthwile for once with regards to this issue:

I want another corner pretty bad, but I really think Scandrick is going to act like a total bitch if it happens.

Scandrick just got more upfront money in a restructured deal today. That should pacify him.

Huh, why? Seems like the dude is all about competition and proving himself.

Plus we have to replace Newman no matter what.

Brandon Carr on his way to sign a deal for $7mil per year.

I'm hoping that's true but that $7m seems a little optimistic to me. But then that's probably a 6-year commitment with a fair amount of guaranteed money. I guess that's okay for a 26-year-old guy though. Especially one that's been completely healthy and started from Day 1.

I expected he'd be a $9m/year type guy with a few teams bidding him up. He's not super elite but very solid, and as clean as they come in free agency. Usually these guys are 31 years old or have injury questions or something. $7m-ish would thrill me but I don't see it.

Scandrick was one of the Cowboys's biggest charities last year. He's more than welcome to compete but everything we've seen of him suggests he's a slot corner and a slot corner only. I don't know why people talk him up when he just hasn't been that good. Not by PFF evaluations or the eye test. I don't know how he could justify a complaint when he's fortunate to have the contract he does, and now even more job security with his restructuring today.

Still miffed we paid him that kind of money when a guy like Joselio Hanson was out there last year & available for less than $1m/year. I'm not even sure he isn't a better slot corner. They grade out about the same.

I've always thought he was a totally selfish dude who was all about himself and getting paid. He's turned down lots of media interviews/appearances because they wouldn't pay him to do them and before he signed his new deal that's pretty much all the guy ever talked about.

He was #1 on my list of people to completely suck ass this year now that he got some money. I suppose there's a small chance it motivates him, but it just seems more likely he'll feel disrespected and fade off into the distance like so many other guys the Cowboys have extended lately.
