I absolutely love the Jaylon Smith extension. Money is right, guaranteed is right, structure is right all around, and the player is right.

Would like to see Cooper and Byron Jones get inked soon too, with those two handled your tag is free next year and can work on Dak at a less urgent pace and get a little more of a look. I still have no problem with him as a franchise QB but as a $30m/year QB whew. If he were a little better or a little worse it’d be so much easier to know how to handle him.

Zeke’s just going to have to hold out IMO. I really wouldn’t bother trading short of a spectacular offer, a la Ditka or H. Walker, it would be a bad look with other extensions coming. He just doesn’t strike me as a guy prepared to see it through. Best play is to offer a salary increase without an extension for now and re-eval next season, save him some face and get him on the field for a more sensible number.

Selfishly hope that Cooper's foot takes some millions off, then gets better

As for Zeke, yeah I don't get it. But if they cave it ****s the league. Can't cave.

I dunno about everyone celebrating this deal. Not only did Jerry get took, but we've now entered the era of a rookie deal meaning nothing. Enjoy all the other future holdouts.

In b4 we have half the cap sunk into Zeke and Dak and they're completely shot and revealed as a fraud, respectively, in about two years.

Lol everything in the world right now

Wtf kind of negotiations were these? You just handed a banner deal to a dude with one and very nearly two suspensions, who has two years on his deal, who is also a running back. $50m guaranteed with a structure that looks like it could wind up a 4 year $70m type mess. Where did these negotiations start? 20 years with half a billion gtd? He’s a great halfback but he’s still a halfback

I'm glad you bros see it the way I do. Most Cowboy fans on reddit are like "WEEEEEEEE NICE!"

I'm actually terrified of the Dak deal now.

There’s enough to get Dak, Cooper and Jones all extended but man that Zeke deal stings. At least with Dak you know you must have a good player at the position and they’re super hard to acquire, and tend to last far longer.

Anyway I guess nobody told the Giants that the regular season started

Guess they sign Dak to 35m now and probably feel good about it.

I thought that Ekeler and company today showed why you don't cave to the RB. Anyway, it's done.

Dak gives us hope which is more important than any salary cap concerns. Would you rather have Trubisky or Sam Darnold and cap space? No.

Zeke deal not the absolute greatest thing in the world but it's not terrible. Kinda feel like not treating your stars like (not) garbage matters outside of having Bill Belichick.

Well if there ever was a stretch to lock down the division, it's this one. Eagles got so many injuries. Brees hurt and probably won't be the QB in 2 weeks when we get the Saints. Packers come to Dallas week 5, very winnable (but that's a good challenge).

Lot of 6-0 scenarios going into the game vs the Eagles week 7.

I also can't stop looking at week 12. At New England.

Eh, good game I guess, but sweating the hell out of Tyron’s ankle. And we can at least shelve “undefeated through X week” type talk and abandon any notion of skipping their way into the playoffs. Some serious games ahead of them the way things are shaking out, which get a lot tougher if you’re missing an AP tackle.

**** game on offense across the board. Dak, the protection, Zeke got nothing, receivers bleh. No #2 outside guy stepped up with Gallup out. Jarwin seemed like the only guy who earned his check. Saints played well but just 10 pts with this roster is inexcusable.

A convincing W at home vs GB would be a good rebound.

I take it back that the Zeke contract wasn't too bad. Oh well. Hopefully the team rebounds.

I mean it’s just one game in what’s still a good start, but 1.9 ypc on 18 carries not a great look for a $15m/year halfback. At least he had a few catches and a score.

Tyron Smith high ankle sprain out who knows how long, Kavon Frazier done for season but shouldn’t be a big problem to replace

I wanna see how Dak does with Smith out. If it's mediocre I hope it gives us some leverage. This whole business of Dak being worth 35-40-45m per is a bit lol. They've built a SICK team around him. How does he do when key parts are out?

Not sure how anybody can focus on Dak with about a dozen players looking even worse, some far worse. Even the HC has a 15 yd penalty ffs.

Hoping they can tighten up and at least close out with a good 4th quarter. All isn’t lost on the season or anything, see if they can tighten things up a little. Some guys we know to be pretty good players are looking like ass, hopefully just a slump

Here's the thing: Beyond a certain point you just can't teach accuracy. And what infuriates me is that for every pass where he hits a guy in stride, there are two more where wide open guys have to jump 5 feet in the air or slow down or come back to the ball and miss out on huge gains. The pass to Cooper for the first pick was way behind him and barely catchable for a guy running full speed, no matter what Aikman said to try to defend it. I get that not every QB throws perfect laser-guided bullets every time, but the good ones don't misfire nearly as often as Dak does.

I know Dak has some solid skills but I think we've seen his ceiling and it's just OK. And I hate the idea of going back into QB hell, but if the market for him is 30M then I want Jerry to shake his hand and wish him the best of luck.

Our run defense is bad and the D still forces almost no turnovers

GB was almost a bottom 10 running team and Aaron Jones averaged almost 6 yards a pop against us.

I'm troubled by this far more than I am the Dak situation. What makes it so confounding is that it's practically the same squad from last year, with just a slight change in personnel. I don't understand how they've fallen off this bad. Maybe it's just one game, but that was putrid.

Also, the slow start nonsense has to end for this team to have a legit shot. It's been just about every game now. You can sleepwalk through the first two quarters and get away with it against winless teams, but obviously not good ones.

Good teams can afford some bad games esp against other good teams, but not too many. Too early to know if this is just a slump or not but hey, next up 0-4 Jets. Cowboys still somewhere in that tier of pretty good teams below NE and potentially 2 games away from a credible division lead.

Lot of rankings have us around 15th-ish. Stings.

Gallup being back is nice. I'd be up for some Gregory maybe soon. Need the help. I'll send him some 0 THC weed.

btw shocked these dudes just don't take what I take (0 THC all CBD weed).

Apparently we can't get away with it against winless teams either. FML.

I guess you could say we probably win that game with our tackles and Cobb and Cooper, but I think what we've determined is that yet again this team is just kinda okay. Still in the drivers seat for the division if we bounce back against the Eagles next week, but I'm pretty sure the ceiling for this team is like a 4 seed and maybe one playoff win with the right matchup.
