He would refuse to sign and re-enter the draft next year. Going undrafted, he was not eligible to re-enter the draft, so had to sign with a team as an UDFA.

It was all about the money. He said if anyone drafted him he would refuse to sign because he wanted to enter the suplemental draft where if drafted he could get at least 3rd round money.

Not really. He went into the draft a relatively known prospect with Kiper and others talking about him. Yet all 32 NFL teams didn't think he was good enough to be a top-256 pick, even the Cowboys passed on him three times in the late 7th. Maybe it's health or something I don't know the guy.

There are 4 other UDFA wideouts and a couple are returners among those. George Farmer got most of the bonus money allocated to the team for UDFAs. Dunn, Boyd & Street are on the roster too. That's 8 guys for probably 2 open WR spots...Goodley will get his shot but I wouldn't assign any unusual expectations to him.

Now Collins OTOH lol, assign whatever you like to him. I think Ron Leary or Bernadeau could be trade bait now

There are many things we can insult Jerry for, but he's one hell of a ****ing salesman.

So does Collins take Leary's spot or does Collins take Free's spot and Free moves to G?

Ya True. After reading a bit more. They say he had padded stats due to the system he was in. So I guess we'll see.

As for the o line. I'm hoping Collins takes Learys spot just to have a veteran presence out there with this really young oline
Collins - 21, Smith, Fredrick, and Martin - 24.

Which makes me even more excited, these guys could be together for 8 more years.

Is this Leary contract year? Free signed through 2017?*

Man I say a standing o for Jerry Jones. When you read stuff like this, it does make you realize just how on top of his game he can be:

Wow our offseason of run good continues like gangbusters.

Before the year even starts, Brady is suspended 4 games. The 4th game is against who you ask?

I'm still mostly terrified of anything happening to Romo. Not the only team with that problem but I'm hoping against all reason that Vaughan next-steps it enough to be a viable backup.

Still some questions to address at DT, CB and RB too obviously. But we'll see how they go here shortly. I love these 90-man offseason rosters but it's so hard to figure out what they have. 3 young project DTs returning, none rookies, somebody's got to have a little game please?

That feeling when you realize that Gregory is basically getting somewhere around 3.3-3.4m for FOUR years because of how low he was drafted.

Can you imagine if he beasts and he's getting paid less than 1M per against the cap? Godaaaaamn. PLEASE. Helps make up for the rape at corner.

I'm shocked we haven't reached out to Hillis to close the trifecta.

It was technically an extension but functionally a pay raise for a player already who was already firmly under contract for the next 4 seasons. It just tacked on a 5th year and bumped his money up from 1.5m base this year and 3m in 2016, now it's 4m and 5m.

Usually I'd have a problem with this kind of move but they still wind up with very decent numbers for him. They've been all over the map overpaying him, then asking for a reduction, then giving him a pay bump before and guaranteeing a little more, now again...

Still they've asked so much more out of him than when they inked the original deal and lately he's performed.

Following up on earlier post, Cowboys kind of put themselves in that spot anyway. They goofed on Carr, and missed on every corner drafted since Scandrick. Check this list out for some lols:

DeAngelo Smith (5th rd, 2009)
Mike Mickens (7th rd, 2009)
Akwasi Owusu-Ansah (4th rd, 2010) - technically he was CB/FS/KR
Jamar Wall (7th rd, 2010)
Josh Thomas (5th rd, 2011)
Morris Claiborne (1st + 2nd rd, 2012)
B.W. Webb (4th, 2013)
Terrance Mitchell (7th, 2014)

I'm not one of those fans that pencils in every 4th or 5th round pick as the next Richard Sherman but this is inexcusable. Most didn't even make the roster. Claiborne's the only one left and he'd already be gone if not for the combination of his current injury and a fully guaranteed contract.

So right now it's Scandrick and a bunch of question marks. Does Claiborne go to PuP and matter at any point this year? Where does Byron Jones play if he's ready to start at all? Will Carr be here? The rest including Patmon are fringe guys, including Corey White who has game experience but was reportedly horrible and not even active for games by the end of last year. Pass rush or not they're going to need to find a way to improve at corner.

Probably safe to say Carr will be here, just can't afford to let him go and Jerry wants to win now. So with Carr, Scandric, Jones, Patmon, and possibly Claiborne at some point, and an improved pass rush we should be fine.

I wouldn't go so far as to say safe until he comes down on his salary. Keeping him at his current pay is really a $20m decision for them factoring in the cost of releasing him a year later. Even if he's better than his awful metrics suggest and it's all the fault of the pass rush, they have to be actively considering other possibilities.

I've heard the suggestion that they work out a combo extension/pay cut with Carr with some additional guaranteed money, in exchange for more manageable numbers. It sounded reasonable but the more I think on it the less I like it because I don't know how far above replacement level RCB he actually is.

ATM Scandrick's the only given as far as Week 1 corners. They're already talking about Jones to get looks at safety and he's a rookie besides. Claiborne doesn't have a sure timeline on his return. Patmon's a great story and a lot of people's pet cat but is still a fringe player needing another good showing, but at least has the inside track for a job.

lol AJ Jenkins

They do need a #4 who can back up on the outside but damn. Hope Devin Street had a good offseason...he's getting starter reps on the outside with Dez out so he's got a shot at it. If he's not the guy I imagine they'll be in the market for a vet pretty shortly.
