Yeah, that was just a really weird game.

On one hand, I really don't want to read too much into the Romo thing. We've watched him play pretty well with broken ribs and all sorts of other injuries. But he looked legit awful in every way. No accuracy, no zip, couldn't get the ball deep, HORRIBLE mental errors.

If we seriously do go 3-13 or something I really just hope we draft a QB and move on. We won't be good that year anyway, eat every penny of Romo salary we can and just wait a year or two to compete again.

Not sure if I've said this before ITT but I had the EXACT same surgery Romo had 3 years ago. I didn't personally experience any weakness after it, but I definitely tweak my back about once every couple of months doing some completely normal task. I can't even imagine trying to play football with it.

A little premature to write off Romo based on one game coming off an injured offseason. Also he has so much guaranteed next year that unless the wheels completely come off I'd assume he'll be back in 2015. That doesn't mean they don't draft a QB anyway (which they should regardless).

The more important concern is not restructuring him again. They have to pay his salary outright or release him in 2015. They can easily do either without restructuring, if they don't try to eek out every cap dollar buying some free agents.

Either way there's not much point in sweating it, just keep your fingers crossed it's just rust and he gets it together. I'm never going to be calling for Brandon Weeden to come in anyway.

Box score is a lie. We got obliterated, it was never close. As for Romo, he had one full practice week, tons of people came to RG3s defense when he stunk after an abbreviated off season. It needs to turn around fast though. Defense looked good in the short stints, actually saw a good amount of pressure. Wish I could have seen more of it

Let's freaking run the ball in favorable goal to go situations rather than getting cute next time. Or just put the ball up instantly for Dez

I thought a few of the interceptions were pretty exceptional too. But I'm not sure why the play call was to yolo into double coverage on them. I guess the 21-3 score was in his head or something.

I thought it was impressive that Romo was able to throw a pick and get Dez killed in the same play.

Wow...hearing Romo audibled out of a run on the 2nd and 1 where he got sacked. That's really terrible.

It's not even that, you definitely want to adjust to the defense and you still have 1-2 more plays if you fail on 2nd down. The first read was Dez in the corner high or outside grab and that play has worked pretty well. Quick play, generally it goes out of bounds or sails over everyone when it doesn't work. And their cornerbacks were the softest point with backups in so I'm okay with the call, whether it came from Romo or not.

The problem was #77 completely whiffing on his block. Not even time time for a second read (WRs on the right side) or a throwaway. Old ass Justin Smith just torched Tyron and ran straight through apparently untouched. Wouldn't have gone any better had they been handing off to Murray there.

God, work was insufferable today. Had to hear so many casualfans clamoring for Weeden to start... cause yeah... that's a good idea.

Weeden? What? Are they casualfans of some other NFC East team? I'd rather call up Jon Kitna. How casual a Cowboys fan do you have to be to call for Brandon ****ing Weeden to play, in any circumstance that doesn't include a pack of hungry lions loose on the playing field.

I'm pretty sure that Bad Romo = Normal Weeden.

I'm guessing you don't work with blunt or sharp instruments since there were no news stories of mass workplace murder today. I mean, that's how I may have reacted to those sort of "fans" after yesterday.

Yeah, sure Romo will be ok. Either way, fire up the mock drafts.

Leonard Williams, DE/DT, USC

Ehh... I live in northeast Texas. People aren't too bright around here. I'm used to it.

If that wasn't a flukey bad game for Romo, then yes, we are worse.

From where they sit today the pick could be almost any position. You can probably eliminate WR once Dez is resigned but that hasn't happened yet. I can't even completely rule out TE because Witten's in his 12th season and Escobar is still a question mark.

D-line will almost certainly be a need but it's not known who. Lots of expiring contracts and Lawrence/Crawford are the only two you can assume will be around in 2015. McClain, Mincey and the two low rookies if they work out but they may not...Spencer, Selvie, Hayden lol are free agents and Melton is a likely option cut.

QB is a real option for obvious reasons. If there's a good one in the top ten and Dallas is in range I don't see how they can pass. If Romo has an All-Pro Peyton Manning year I think they still have to draft a top prospect.

RB is possible. Murray isn't under contract and that's a tough position to throw a lot of money at.

They're a mess at linebacker. Sean Lee isn't reliable, Carter and Durant are free agents. Holloman's gone and the rest are who knows types. This lineup fell apart pretty quickly.

Safety has some young blood but we'll see how this year goes. Church and Wilcox have a shot, but this could easily be a need by the end of the year.

Corner? Carr probably has to go so that's one spot. Claiborne and Scandrick's contracts will have them back in 2015 but if they're bad it will ramp this need up even more.

2 o-line positions...

My best guess is QB and then whatever falls in their lap, in whatever order.

What's our best and worst case for cap space, assuming a modest league-wide increase of the cap? Do we finally get to sign anyone on D, or does Dez eat it all?

They won't have a lot relative to other teams, but ultimately it depends on what they do exactly. As of right now they're sitting at $136m against next years' cap and this years' is $133m.

Dez isn't signed yet which will escalate that number. Murray, Free, Carter, Durant, Spencer, Selvie, Hayden, R. McClain, Harris, Parnell, Moore and the punter are all free agents and right now don't count against the 2015 cap. They'll bring a number of those guys back.

Leary, Dunbar and Beasley are restricted FAs that can be brought back at a reasonable-ish price for a 4th year, but also account for zero right now.

Henry Melton has $9m option year next season that can be saved by letting him go. Maybe brought back under a cheaper deal depending.

There's not a lot you can do with Romo to save money, but they could restructure his deal again and open up $14m for the season, with absolutely tragic results after that.

Tyron and will be restructured next year to make space, Dez too once the new deal is in.

Then you've got to pay the rookies and that could be upwards of $7m depending on where they're picking.

Letting go of Witten would save a little, and Carr but only if you split it across two years or if he took a pay cut.

Some dead money already there for Miles and Orton (about $8m)

They'll get under the cap but it will be pretty messy and they'll most likely blow their load trying to keep guys they have & eating some dead money. I would expect more of the same as far as low-end free agents and restructures. They're still in cap hell as far as that goes.

Best case as far as improving their cap: They just pay Romo and make it his last year, release Carr, Melton, Witten. And let Murray walk, along with most of those other free agents looking for $1.5m+ contracts. Doesn't do much for the year but eases things up for a new QB and coaching regime the year after.

vote is officially tomorrow. We'd get Scandrick back in time for week 3, I'd guess. I'll take it at this point.

Hope the run game lasts because Romo is clearly not what he was thus far and pass protection has looked shaky. Defense had me worried after it was cut to 16-10 but the offense had a great response drive.
