I think the most depressing part of the season may be that we win 10-11 game and miss the wildcard.

He's had nothing to do now for 3 months besides not smoke pot, workout, and study the playbook. And he's likely been dissecting film of Houston's secondary the entire time. I really don't think this is me just being a homer either. Gordon will be a game changer from the gate. He's the kind of guy who's presence changes spreads 5 points.

The fact that he's an unknown works both against us and for us. Lastly, we must also consider the strategy of deceiving opposing teams. If I was a head coach I'd use every single opportunity to misinform opponents. Creating false QB controversies is a great way to do that. Maybe Pettine always knew he'd start Hoyer? Maybe it's the opposite and he'll pull Hoyer after starting him for one series no matter what? Ultimately, I now trust the Browns coaching staff and front office enough to stand behind any decision they make.

Hoyer needs the game of his life to put up the necessary numbers. Therefore I think Manziel gives us a chance to win. Couple that with getting him some experience and this seems like a no brainer.

Yikes, crazy last couple of days for Gordon, Manziel, and Gilbert. If I had to guess today Manziel and Gordon aren't on the team next year and Gilbert barely makes it. Another disaster of a season.

Have a hard time believing that they cut Manziel before the season starts next year with no serious QB options. Zero trade value for him. Would love to string him along for preseason to cut him then. I have no idea wtf is going on with Gilbert, he needs to get it together. Gordon I can see reforming somewhat, he's been the most reasonable of those three and has shown the most talent. Seems like it's a nice warning shot and we'll see where things sort out in camp. No need to push anything before then other than light a fire under the ass of anyone associated with these three stooges.

Everyone focused on the first rounders.

imo joel bitonio projects out as a perennial pro-bowler (i don't pay for $tat$ but i think i read he was PFF's #2 guard itl this year.) Passes my eyetest as a mean mfk'in mauler.
Let's say he was the first round pick in 2014.

Christian Kirksey is a sideline to sideline LBer who does well in coverage. Basically what the stealers hoped for in ryan shazier. He was the second round pick in 2014.

UDFA Isaiah Crowell looked good even when the line played like ****. 3rd rounder.

UDFA K'Waun Williams gave the browns quality play for most of the year as a nickel corner and no reason to think he won't keep on truckin. Great value in the fourth round.

Large Corner Pierre Desir gave Browns a solid, effective effort in a pinch against monstrous rookie WR Kelvin Benjamin. He was the fifth round pick in 2014.

Gilbert still has high upside and corners have arguably the 2nd toughest learning curves in the nfl. He showed some flashes at playmaking ability on defense, and looked lost at times. Struggled to get on the field due to unexpected depth at the position. Not awful for the sixth rounder.

Manziel is a young gunslinger who hasnt had nearly enough reps in practice or in game situations but has a ton of upside still to realize. A fantastic gamble as the browns 7th rounder.

Defense caused a ton of turnovers, which I havent seen the browns do since i dont even remember. Line will be sick next year with Mack back. Theres an outside chance they'll have Gordon for two more years on the cheap, or swindle some fools out of draft equity. Thought it was a pretty good year all in all.

Oh yeah they kicked the **** out of the Bengals And stealer's too.

Even if you wanted to focus on the first rounders in certitude that they are busts, two mulligans in a few months! First time ever browns will have two top twenty picks!

Also, I haven't seen this talked about anywhere, but, any chance gordon's suspension was just part of the tank job they did against baltimore? Are we really to believe Hoyer and Gordon wouldn't have gone out there if it was a win and in? Anyway, 7-9 and a really talented roster outside of (maybe?)QB looking forward is not so bad! Schedule next year is brutal though.

Whoops forgot Terrance West. (Anybody else?) Let's call him, idk, a conditional fourth round pick. Is there a more productive rookie class this past year, in total? Let the derisive fools bleat on with their uninformed hatred. It looks like browns have a fine GM/front office/scout system in place.

I lean more towards thinking positively like you, but look at that schedule again if you think their won total opens any higher than 4.5

4.5 is about as low as it gets. I can't see the AFC North getting any tougher, a lot of those teams are on the decline. 2-4 there seems fairly low end, then there are going to be 3 bad teams we play. Luckbox another game out of the rest and that's at least 6 wins.

I'd expect it to be 6. Hopefully they don't blame it on Pettine for "struggling results" when you stick the guy with Johnny. I'm somewhat expecting an offseason move with him, to be honest.

Haven't heard anything about an interview being scheduled or anything but even the mere whispers make me shudder. I would probably dismiss this if it weren't the Browns we're talking about.

makes me wonder why the two local idiots with the afternoon radio show were talking about it then.

they're real real bad, like the most annoying version of casualfan you can get...every monday the first hour they talk about their fantasy teams enough that I could tell you basically their starting lineups all season. :-/

Browns hired the Oakland quarterbacks coach as their new OC. Hard not to get excited about that.

Another Ytown coach. What the hell do they put in the water down there Wiper?

Idk. People complain about retreads getting their 50th shot after never sticking anywhere. Why not give this guy a shot? I really don't know of any good ways to measure the ability of low profile coaches. But I will say I feel better about hiring a guy who seemingly is a good fit with a quality scheme than some guy you don't feel as great about but "has experience."

Both Browns and Raiders fans are pissed on Twitter. Raiders fans really seemed to like his work with Carr. Browns fans are ******s who "want a name," I assume.

LOL failing a test for alcohol means you get suspended a year, lol NFL.

Not really. Seems perfectly reasonable for a player who got a DUI on top of everything else.

And somehow the Browns just keep on being the Browns.

problem is, it's 100% that if/when they cut him, he wakes up, finds God or Jerry Rice or whatever and makes 11 straight pro bowls

even i'm kinda like.....I guess it can't hurt to keep him through the suspension right? they don't have to pay him, and no reason to drop him now if he can't play for 18 months anyway.

morale might waver a bit, but if its me, my response is, "yes. if you go for 1,600+ yards in 14 games as a 21-year old we will treat you differently too".

like I said, I'm just dreading the preordained life turnaround that happens the day after the Browns wave him.

No alcohol at all for anyone who gets a DWI. It's still silly. Good thing he didn't beat his wife, or he'd be suspended for another 2 games.
