Just because you fire someone "for cause" doesn't mean you don't have to pay them. It means the fired employee has to sue, after which there will be a settlement. Unless he's done contractually prohibited things, or has routinely been behaving like Tom Cable, the Browns will have to pay him at least a sizable chunk of his presumably large salary for the length of his contract.

i guess it will all come out eventually, but you are right they will likely have to pay kokinas short of something really wild going on (which seems unlikely). his contract may have breached in the sense that he was supposed to have control over the 45 man roster yet manginni traded edwards without his knowledge. however, since that is not really his fault i cannot see how it could be used to not pay him.

i guess this is a move to take away some of manginni's power even if kokinas did not have control over anything.

so i don't know is a weird situation but i would be surprised if manginni is back next year. even though it does not sound like its a done deal but bernie kosar might be in as GM which would be interesting.

Has Bernie Kosar ever spent a day in his life working for an NFL front office? Hiring former players with no experience doesn't seem like a smart move, even by Browns' standards.

Judging by his television and radio appearances there's also a very real possibility Bernie has a drinking problem. The good news is there's no where to go but up.

he ran the Cleveland arena team and they went from last place to the playoffs, if that counts. some reports are that Ernie Acorsi would be his mentor initially, which he would need.

i dont know what the deal with Bernie's slurred speach is. He would have to have a major drinking problem for him to sound that way all the time. my guess is its some sort of medical issue as opposed to a drinking problem. even when his speach is slurred he is still making intelligent points.

he does a lot of browns pregames, and i feel like gauging both my eyes and ears with large nails.

look, bernie was a hero to me growing up, as he was to thousands i'm sure. poster on the wall and everything. i remember pulling a bernie kosar card out of a pack one time and screaming like i won the ****** award.

see, at this point, what do we have to lose? i mean, he's obviously immediately the worst GM in the league, but with EA (boy do i wish that meant erin andrews) as a mentor, how much worse can he be? wait, don't answer that..

this was OBVIOUSLY a move against mangini. the guy didn't do ANYTHING. he just rubber-stamped mangini's moves, if that.

i really hope this whole 'phone records' thing turns into something awesome. dunno what, can't even guess, but i hope it's just something that is mind-blowingly browns.

finally, i spent a bit of time on some browns boards this morning trying to figure out what happened between the huge summit between two browns fans and Lerner. (LOLOL)

i guess nothing according to people who listened to the radio interviews afterwards...

and i think i may've changed my tune from last night.

i might actually buy 2 tickets for the monday night game in two weeks, and the only reason is to stand outside and beg/scream/harass with words/signs/posters fans to stay out of their seats for the opening kickoff.

i know it's nothing in the big picture, and even actually HELPS Lerner, but it'll HAVE to be talked about on tv, which could bring more of this to light to people who may not have heard much about it.

this is really such a shame. people around the country really have no idea what it is to be a browns fan. raiders fans might get a bit of it, but really, to have a team that an entire region grows up with turn into the worst laughingstock in the league and been run into the ground by idiots...it's just unreal.

then, add in the fact that i root for Michigan on saturdays, and that makes for some interested weekend nights for my wife.

I felt it was a good time to bump this thread. The epic late game collapse puts the Browns in a 3 way tie for the number 1 pick. Browns remaining schedule is @CIN, SD, PIT, @KC, OAK, JAX. The Oakland game should be pretty exciting. Tampa has @ATL, @CAR, NYJ, @SEA, @NO, ATL so there are possibilities there. The Rams are currently beating Arizona 3-0. After today they have SEA, @CHI, @TEN, HOU, @ARI, SF.

i'm sure everyone knows by now, but i'd like to point out that the browns found a way to lose a game, WHEN THEY WERE WINNING WITH :00 ON THE CLOCK IN THE 4TH!!!

i said earlier, that they find new lows and exciting ways to lose every week, but that takes the cake.

:00 on the clock.

browns up.

browns lose.

good times.

At least draft day will be more exciting. Having a top 3 pick will allow Mangini to maybe trade down for a few more 6th round picks.

so, a month (and 4 wins later), where are we going forward?

the no-names on defense have been beast.

harrison obviously has played decent in december.

top 6 pick (which had god-damn better be defense), holmgren...am i wrong in feeling like we can be .500 next year?

I have determined that I would happily trade 2 1st round picks for Suh.

Browns 1st round picks since 1999

Tim Couch
Courtney Brown
William Green
Jeff Faine
Kellen Winslow
Braylon Edwards
Kamerion Wimbley
Joe Thomas
Brady Quinn
Alex Mack

Average selection- 10th pick in the draft

Ok- I wouldn't trade Joe Thomas + a 1st rounder for suh- but I would probably trade every other 2 1st round combinations for him. I would definitely trade over 50% of those combinations.

If this was a 32 game season, the Browns would definitely make the playoffs.

The last time the Browns won 4 straight? 1994.

you should be a bengals fan.

and we're not getting Suh.

who knows anything about this FSU CB they're projecting to us? if he is really the top CB in the draft, i'll say ty if they get him.

lots and lots and lots of medium-range prospects coming in this year. watching bits of the press conference and all bets are off right now...

sorry, I am a Browns fan...I am allowed to get excited from 4 games/a new GM/and a bunch of draft picks.

The hell with the Bengals. I still remember getting crap in 3rd grade for being a Browns fan and dealing with moronic Bengals fans and their damn Super Bowl run. Rooting against them with Montana pwning them was so awesome.

This definitely was a pretty sweet end to a season. Too bad it will just hurt us in the draft. But it gives us hope.

Sorry for raining on your parade, but...

Cribbs agent J.R. Rickert told FOXSports.com on Wednesday that a holdout and trade demands are coming if the Browns don’t change their negotiating tune. Rickert said new Browns president Mike Holmgren has offered Cribbs a take-it-or-leave-it multiyear contract extension that averaged $1.4 million a season with the potential of reaching $2 million through incentives.

......

“It’s time for the organization to step up and do the right thing for this kid,” Rickert said. “If the situation isn’t properly addressed, Joshua Cribbs will not set foot in that facility come March (for offseason workouts) and will demand a trade on the first day of the league year.”

And Cribbs spoke about it on twitter too...

Thanks everyone, I love playing for the browns & put my all in to it, but it doesn't look good 4me at this point on returning...

I don't believe I made the to do list for the team in 2010....

Of course there's still lots of time to negotiate a new deal, but this news definitely puts a damper on the excitement

sorry to rain on yours...

1. he's signed for 3 more years...wtf is he gonna do? sit out for 3 years?? lol

2. like they don't have much more to do than worry about giving a guy with 3 years left on his contract a new one...saaaay, A GM? he's easily a top 3 valuable player on the team, but reeeelax dude, they'll get to you.

3. they'll re-do his contract. i'll bet you $50. it's a bet?

listening to trivisano today, and Cribbs' attorney called in...MIKE HUNG UP ON HIM LOLOLOLOLOL!!!!! then went on a rant for 20 minutes about how if you're going to try to use his show to advertise, you have to pay clear channel and him!!

funniest **** EVER.

just kept going on and on and on about how 'stfu they're gonna pay your guy, and if you're going to use my show to promote and advertise your client, you have to pay...CLICK.'

such a gangster.
