TheoJed Mania is here. Like what I'm hearing about Sveum and the new coaching staff, esp Bosio. Hopefully, we won't all be beating our heads against the wall any longer about the insane decisions of our manager and GM for a long, long time.
Long live the TheoJed era! Eamus Catuli!

so who will be the 5th starter. I still don't see it happening with Jeff S. Guess Wells makes the most most sense to me with Wood next in line. Sounds like Volstad has looked good thus far.
Also looking good is everyone's favorite LF, he who will not be named just yet. Just wait until he has to see real breaking balls though.
Looks like AR and BJ will start at AAA. Hopefully, I can go check them out in April if they come to Omaha for a series. I'm guessing they'll be up by Mid May at the latest.
Can't wait to post the white flag again, boys.

I believe Sveum actually said Maholm will be the 5th starter and that Jeff S, Wells, and Volstad were competing for 3-4 spots lol. Looks like Wells is either trade bait or long relief.
This season I think 80 wins is probably a big success but I think 2-3 years from now things should be much better for obv reasons.

yeah, maholm is pitching the 5th game. Jeff S. got rocked last time out bringing his ERA to 6.xx. He had been good leading up to that and he gets another start today so we'll see.

Jeff S. with 6 IP, 0 runs, 5 K, 1 BB, 3 Hits. Probably earned himself the spot with that performance.

Likely opening day lineup out today. I like our roster considering the disaster of the last few years but man, I am really worried about run production when your RBI spots consist of:
4. LaHair
5. Soriano
6. Stewart
I can't see how a lineup that runs that middle of the order out there every day has any chance to be competitive. I'm also worried that we have no OBP-oriented guys other than DeJesus while at the same time lacking any power threats.
Anyway, I know its a rebuilding process and am as optimistic about the medium and long-term outlook for the Cubs as I ever have been.

Yeah, I like the moves we made this offseason, but they were mostly about getting rid of dead money and rebuilding the farm system, not really anything that's going to help this year. I think anyone who expects this to be even a .500 team is kidding themselves, unfortunately. Hopefully we'll at least see a team that plays hard and smart for a change, but I just don't think the talent is there.

Had a real productive mourning allowing me to sneak out of work around noon. I now just realized the game is WGN and I have Direct TV, which is blacked out! WTF!!!
Otherwise I am really excited for this season, despite our limited lineup. I am looking to see some good baseball and hopefully a roster full of players who play hard! Go Cubs!

Damn, 14 posts in and I've already found out a UCLA fan and an ND fan are Cubs fans too. Brutal.

Lol, being a fan of the Cubs and ND is not easy.
BTW Direct TV and WGN just reached an agreement and programming resumes! Good start to the season!!

It's been six full innings and Soriano hasn't TOTALLY embarrassed himself out there yet. Way to be.

In before we lose by 1 due to his failed steal attempt though.

Sigh, Dempster gives up an infield 'hit' and they pull him for Woody who decides to walk the whole damn world.

So bad. Wood was a bargain/fan favorite, but I see nothing but headaches with him this season...

I don't blame Wood really, bad outings happen. I just don't understand pulling Dempster when he's rolling. Seems like it was an overreaction to a weakly hit ball that became a hit because we have an infielder playing out of position.
