The reality of the situation for the Bears is that if they win their last 3 games they're almost certainly in the playoffs. Can it be accomplished? Sure.

Adios, you're aware we'll be playing the unbeaten Packers in Lambeau on the 25th? With Caleb Hanie. And Marion Barber?

Heck, lets go down in flames, get Bert Farve back for 3 games. He'd have more chance of winning that game than Hanie would. NotSureIfSerious.jpg

TBF, I personally believe almost any QB would be an improvement over what Hanie has been showing us, minus Colins of course. A veteran QB could at least hit a 4 yard pass to a RB, which Hanie cannot. Also remember the horribly missed pass to Bennett? I believe last week, that also would have give us the win

they need to get rid of both angelo and lovie, but angelo has sufficiently ingratiated himself with the mccaskeys to save his job. and lovie should be able to argue that they were 7-3 and rising when they lost cutler. if lovie's contract isn't up there's a 2% chance they'll pay him to not coach.

the problem is that i'm not sure where one finds an nfl head coach who's willing to incur the appropriate level of risk when the game's on the line... I mean, almost all of them take the "safe" route.

it would be awesome if philly was dumb enough to fire andy reid.

The only risk Andy Reid takes when the game's on the line is making sure he has 0 time outs left for the 2 minute drill

FYI Bear fans. I'm thinking Cutler might be trying to manage expectations a bit.

There’s an ‘outside’ chance that Jay Cutler can make it back against Pack
Quote:
Quarterback Jay Cutler offered hope that he might return before the end of the regular season — even an outside chance to play against the Packers next week.

‘‘I’ll say outside. I wouldn’t say it’s good or definite or even a real possibility,’’ Cutler said Wednesday on “Waddle & Silvy” on WMVP-AM (1000). ‘‘There’s always a chance.’’

While in Denver last weekend, Cutler said he threw a football for the first time since undergoing surgery to repair a broken thumb he suffered against the Chargers on Nov. 20.

‘‘It’s kind of like trying to relearn it,’’ Cutler said. ‘‘The ball was a little foreign in my hands. It’s a little bit stiff. And those pins in there, that adds a little bit of a shooting pain. In the next few weeks we have to figure out once all the swelling’s going whether I can manage with these pins or we’re going to have to pull them.’’

Forte return?

On a conference call with Seattle reporters, coach Lovie Smith said that Matt Forte, recovering from an MCL sprain, might play Sunday against the Seahawks. But Forte did not practice Wednesday, and it’s highly unlikely he’ll play without having practiced.

‘‘But he’s making *progress, I will say that,’’ Smith said. ‘‘He’s doing more things. He’s looking better. He’s better today than he was yesterday.’’

Call me crazy but I'm okay with Lovie. I think the players run through walls for that guy.

Angelo needs to go, too many terrible personnel decisions to ignore. And Martz can gtfo as well. I really don't think Lovie is anywhere as bad as some of us itt make him out to be.

Sam Hurd going down as one of my all-time favorites even though I'm pretty happy not to watch him play anymore.

I agree with you about Lovie as I'm not totally familiar with the Angelo situation. However, if Hanie's play as a QB continues and the Bears go from 7-3 to 7-9/8-8 (especially with the last 3 being very winnable games) and miss the playoffs someone's going to be held to account. When it's push comes to shove in that situation the GM is going to throw the head coach under the bus a lot in my view.

Thanks Lovie for flushing the season down the s***ter by sticking with Hanie for 4 games.

Who knows what would have happened with McCown, or even Enderle (let alone McNabb/Favre).

F***ing Bears.

meh, not even suprised with todays results.

im wondering if we were this bad with orton/grossman back in early-mid 2000's? i mean we really never had a franchise qb until we got cutler, and it didn't even seem as bad as the last 4 games.

Early Orton was never this bad (not more than a game at a time least ways). Bad Rex was at times. But at least you got Good Rex with that, and he could be pretty great. And neither of them had 3+ game stretches like this.

Early decade Jim Miller/Shane Matthews were never this bad. They were just mostly mediocre.

You have to look for the odd starts of Chad Hutchinson, Henry Burris for performances like this. And the thing is Caleb's had 4 games. Three of them with 3+ picks. And a great Defense to back him up.

He's a bum, and persona non grata to me. I liked him before but he's near single handedly flushed our season down the toilet.

Even more depressing because of what Kyle could have done (after stopping the Pack at 13-0). I'm glad at least the Cowboys where blocking us from him, as it depresses me less.

early orton was decent. there was one season where we were 13-3 and all he did was manage the game. wow our defense back then was super solid. we literally had no offense, but orton would not turn the ball over, and just manage the clock very well back then.

if we only could of brought in mcnabb. he isn't top caliber anymore, but at least he gives us 2 wins or more imo rather than losing 4 and still be in the playoff hunt.

We never went 13-3 with orton. We did it with Miller and Rex. Though I do agree Orton would have been better obv. I think Orton grew a fair amount in Denver vs how he played here though.

holy crap im thinking of the wrong season. the 13-3 season was 2001 with shane matthews/jim miller.

the season im talking about is 2005, where i think grossman was injured and orton came in

Yeah orton took us to 11-5 i believe. Its all pretty irrelevant though because all of those good seasons were majority on the shoulders of a GOAT defense and we had Muhammad who could actually, you know, run routes and receive.

hm not sure, but i know he missed too many games because of injuries. dood was one of the sickest free safeties in da leaaague

Brown is from Scottsdale, AZ and last season he played in all 16 games with the Chiefs. That was the first time he stayed healthy for a full season since 2003.

Totally agree. Yes he makes a lot of terrible in-game decisions, but so do twenty other coaches in the league. I'm more interested in how his players seem to universally respect him and play their asses off, year after year, despite crappy management, crappy records, and a few total a-holes that have been on that team who would have poisoned lesser locker rooms. Not too many other coaches like that in the league imo. "Has respect of players" is one of the most underappreciated coaching qualities out there. Seven seasons so far for Lovie, one super bowl loss, one nfc championship game loss, one silly playoff loss to Steve Smith. All with a mostly atrocious offense, which was bailed out again and again by the terrific defense that he brought to chicago.

Ditka was one of a kind, and in Chicago we obviously love our old school hotheads who scream and swear and throw gum at people, but whether talk radio likes it or not, Lovie has quietly been a freaking rock. He isn't elite, but he giveth more than he taketh away, and I'd rather stick with him than take my chances with 90% of the trendy Wanny recycled boneheads that comprise the short-list of coaching candidates.

If Cutler stays reasonably healthy and we get two more years out of the Urlacher defense, then we're still a major player in the NFC. No need to blow this thing up yet, unless by "thing" you mean Angelo's wife's strap-on while she's reaming him up the skirt of his strawberry shortcake cuckold costume.
