Even with Hanie, 11-5 isn't out of the question. We're talking about a very soft stretch here outside of the Green Bay game. Oakland's the only other team left on the schedule with a winning record.

If Cutler was going to miss any time, this is the stretch. Hopefully it doesn't rule him out for the playoffs though if we still get there. I'm still feeling confident about this team but next week will give us a good indication of how much momentum is lost with this injury.

He'll have an opportunity to impress and hopefully Jay will be ready for the playoffs if we get there.

This could be a really positive turn of events from a big picture perspective.
Caleb is a free agent at end of season.

yelling at my tv this morning w/ mike n mike show

greeney sayin that cutler should have just pulled up and let him score there. "oh great he makes the stop and now you don't have him for the rest of the year"

----shut.up.

he gets the stop, all on his own like a boss then the defense comes in and puts an end to the game with an int in the endzone.

how can you argue against a football player making a play in the moment? god 24 hour sports coverage is tilting.

i think that was the thing that was by far the most frustrating about last years nfcg talk

cutler is one of the toughest QB's in the game and has been hit more than anyone the last 2.5 years yet he still stands in there and talks shot after shot. he still is more than willing to block for WR's on end arounds and RB's on broken run plays (he does this more than anyone imo)

just so sad- after a "slow start" (their 3 losses are to 2 really really good teams and 1 road game to a good team who was playing great) theyve been playing amazing and seemed to have it together. im still not completely sold on their D, the bend dont break **** frustrates me and im not even a bears fan lol, but cutler and the offense seemed to be at a point where a good defense with capability to have great/elite stretches was more than acceptable

Well some players are motivated by new contracts. Regardless, I feel he can be serviceable enough.

Yeah, that got me pretty heated too. When I do listen to them (which isn't that often) I usually side with greenie more than Golic since Golic is pretty obviously anti-chicago. But in this case, greenie was way off. If Cutler isn't hurt on that play chances are he would be praising him.

Or if Cutler doesn't go for the tackle there and the Bears end up losing the game by 3, imagine the Cutler hate we'd be hearing today.

Bottom line, it was a great play and just a fluke injury. I wouldn't want a QB that would be afraid to make that effort, especially in a close game when we're barely clinging to the 6th seed as it is.

Cutler always does the little awesome stuff like that. Barber had a reverse slightly earlier in the game and Cutler went out and threw a block for it. Love that

they finally have a secondary playing the way lovie needs them to play (don't ask me why it took so long) and they're a veteran d so they loved the lockout.

this too. We've sorted out the issues defending the run and are getting TOs regularly, and we're always great at defending the pass, up 14. I think Hanie can get it done, so if we can get Cutler back for the wildcard game, we might be ok. But if we don't get Cutler back by the divisional round, unless the defense is dominating, it doesn't look good. ****.

I'm still optimistic though... the defense is playing really well and we always win special teams. If Martz earns his salary and coaches Hanie up some... he has mobility and arm strength, if he can stay away from INTs we'll be ok.

So the way this process works is every team with a worse record than the bears gets a chance to claim him before us? If thats the case, I don't think we will be seeing Orton back in Chi.

Now, if he does fall to the Bears, they would be fools to not scoop him up.

It goes by worst record, tiebreaker is the w-L % of your schedule, worse is better for the team on the list.

Here's the waiver order:

Indianapolis
Carolina
St. Louis
Minnesota
Washington
Arizona
Jacksonville
Miami
Kansas City
Cleveland
Philadelphia
San Diego
Seattle
Tampa Bay
Tennessee
Buffalo
N.Y. Jets
Denver
N.Y. Giants
Oakland
Cincinnati
Dallas
Atlanta
New Orleans
Houston
Baltimore
Pittsburgh
New England
Detroit
Chicago

I can legit see Chicago getting him here.

The Bears having the 3rd best record in the NFL with the most difficult schedule surprised me. From what it looks like really the Chiefs are the only team that might try and claim him before the Bears.

Damn already used my one time on the neckbeard.

I wonder though if the Bears will not put in a claim because supposedly Chicago is where he wants to go and the Packers & 49ers aren't putting in a claim.

Bears already said they'd go for a claim.

If they get him, can they resign him to a two year deal and trade him in the offseason and tell the other team to give him a long term deal first?

I don't think they will resign him, but they would need to resign him or Hanie.

According to Clayton they have to put in a claim to keep the Chiefs from putting in claim. Orton may threaten the Chiefs with not reporting if they claim him. So if KC knows the Bears have put in a claim they may not put one in. We will find out soon.
