Yes. They have made insane strides over the past six months, and IMO they are the best sabermetric/baseball news site out there. Better than Baseball Prospectus, even. And free!

Something like that? Because I'm so much more optimistic during the AB's of Ellsbury, Lawrie, and Tek, than I am of Ortiz. If you sat him down and made Lugo the DH, I'd be all right with it, and I'm not even joking...and remember, I'm the guy who made the Lugoat avatar.

(EDIT: OK, I've calmed down a little, and realized that Rocco would make a much better DH than Lugo.)

ellsbury is better (unless ortiz from 05-07 returns) because of defense/position (plus he's likely to get better due to age) and it's possible that lowrie could be better for the same reasons. but if you think any of those three swing a better bat than ortiz, then you sir, are crazy.

So I'm randomly checking out fangraphs and stuff. They rate Coco Crisp as a pretty atrocious fielder last year. Did I miss something? I thought he and Ellsbury were pretty comparable, with Ellsbury maybe having a slight edge.

both uzr and plus/minus rated him highly in 2007 and uzr has him a good defender over his career. his 2008 probably doesn't mean anything other than there's a lot of variance in fielding.

Makes sense. That's a ****ton of variance, though. Seems like that alone would it make near impossible to use stats to correctly rate a fielder.
