Kind of an unimpressive 5-1 start. The pitching has been outstanding. 14 runs through 57 IP, and 6 of those runs came in 1 inning. But the offense is still kinda blah.

Last year, the offense was 22nd in wRC+. It feels as if they SHOULD be much better than that. Adding Martinez will help. Playing Devers all year instead of the crap they ran out at 3b last year should help. Mookie's gotta be better. I feel like this is a team that could finish top 5 in wRC+ and we wouldn't be shocked, but they just never put it together last year, and this year hasn't started out great either.

Team really does feel like a wagon. Gotta admit after the way they lost game 1 i had bad feelings but those were quickly put to rest. Bogaerts injury was disappointing with how good he started but offense hasnt missed a beat without him.

I know it might be fools gold but im really digging a motivated Hanley.

Early or not, this is huge. Chances that the Yankees are 6 games better than the Sox the rest of the way is slim.

What an incredible heater. In case you missed it, we hit 0 grand slams last season. We've hit 5 this month all by different batters. Pitching has been great, hitting has been great, coaching has been great. Let's go.

LOL at almost any record (except maybe the '84 Tigers), being uncatchable at this point in the season.

'78 Sox had a 9.5 game lead on NY at the end of June, and look where that ended up.

And then there's the '64 (?) Phillies who blew a 6 game lead with 10 to play.

Surprising how quiet this thread is. This is my first year without MLB Extra Innings so my watching has gone way down (live in DC) and that frustrates me. Might buy the mid-season or something--can't not watch if things continue as they've gone so far.

I just realized that a Red Sox - Yankees playoff series would very likely occur in the divisional round and be best of 5.

One team (Yankees) would obviously have to win the Wild Card game. Then, that team would play the #1 seed (Red Sox).

A best of 5 divisional round series would be a disappointing rematch to the 2004 ALCS, especially after a 14 year wait.
