Kelly just really doesn't have it. Decent stuff, but can't locate like he needs to and gets hit hard way too often
He has to stop trying to throw the ball through a brick wall. That's always been his problem, he doesn't pitch within himself and stabilize his mechanics.
Where will he be drafted? No. 3 to Braves (Mayo); No. 5 to Brewers (BA); No. 1 to Phillies (Fangraphs); No. 8 to Padres (Callis).
What they're saying: "Groome has everything to be a top-of-the-rotation left-handed starting pitcher, from his 6-foot-6 frame to the potential to have three above-average to plus offerings. The fastball is already there, up to 96 mph and sitting 92-93 mph over the summer, and in the 90-94 mph range in the early stages of the spring. Groome features a nasty curve as well, with tight rotation and bite." — MLB Pipeline
"At 6-6, 220 pounds, Groome touches 96 mph, but sits 90-94 mph with his fastball. Groome could be a great addition to the Phillies already improved rotation, as he has the makings of a future ace." — Fangraphs
"Groome is unanimously considered the top amateur baseball player in the country." — SI.com
I dont even pretend to know anything about the guys in the draft but from what i read/heard about this Groome guy im excited. I hope they are able to sign him.
If this guy is the real deal then im really looking forward to him and Espinoza being a possible killer 1-2 in the rotation.
So is Bogaerts starting to enter into the converstion of one of the best players in baseball??
The guy plays top level D at a premium position, currently leads the AL in avg (2nd overall). I think i read somewhere that he has the highest avg over the last calender year. The last part of the puzzle is power and he is starting to show the power that it was said he would have from the minors.
Right now id likely put him in the 2nd tier but I think hes knocking on the door to get into the top tier.
A lot depends on the makeup of your tiers, but I don't think Xander sniffs trout or Harper. His .babip is unsustainable and will surely drop. If we ignore pitchers for the time being I think I could probably name ten position players I'd snap take over Xander if I was forced to be impartial.
Apparently Sox just traded for Drew Pomeranz and Espinoza is part of the deal. I try not to get too attached to prospects but I HATE trading away Espinoza
Eh, it's ok, Michael Kopech, who is 20 & in A Ball (Keith Law #45 prospect) was clocked at 105 mph the other day in a start by 2 separate radar guns. We don't need other prospects when we can get a mediocre pitcher with PetCo-dependant #s.
Actually, just looked it up & Pomeranz has a 2.32 ERA on the road & 2.64 at home.
Yeah I don't hate it. If it was a half-season rental, yeah. But if we get anything like this year's performance for the next two and a half years it seems like a very serviceable deal.
Id be happy if my concerns turn out to wrong. They needed pitching help and if this was the the most they could do without putting Moncada on the market then ill take it.

Source says not to rule out a mega deal with #RedSox acquiring both David Roberston and Jose Quintana. #Dodgers hot on Quintana as well.
I may be alone but this scares the **** out of me. Cant describe how mad/upset ill be if Moncada is traded.
Would obviously ideal to get Quintana and keep Moncada, lol. But Quintana has put up 5 WAR for the last two years and looks set to do it again. And he's got four controllable seasons left for a total of 35 million or so. That IS a superstar. Pitching is risky so I get the hesitation but it COULD be worth it
Are we still using the cold weather excuse for Price sucking?
He's 14th in pitcher war so saying he's sucked is a bit much. He definitely hasn't been as good as we've hoped but he's had some bad luck that will almost certainly even out. His k% and bb% are right in line with last year but his babip is almost 50 points higher
