I'm told that baserunners are so valuable, even stealing second probably isn't worth the risk. A runner on third must be a ton to risk, and risking the inning-ending out in a bases-loaded rally must be as risky as it gets.

stealing second is worth the risk if you're very good at stealing second. the rule of thumb is a 75%+ success rate i believe, although this can vary by situation, batter, etc.

poofler and karak crunched some numbers and came up with 55.5% as the cutoff rate for stealing home with the bases loaded and two outs with an average hitter at the plate. so gehrig would seem to be correct that teams don't do it enough.

honestly what the **** were they even thinking. he wasnt even hurt last year and he had a 6+ ERA in a minor league pitcher's park

also, it's kinda funny that dustin pedroia is the only red sox member with a multi hit game, is 3/4 and still has the worst WPA.

how fitting is it that in lopez' one good pitching appearance this year, in a high leverage situation at that, and he botches it in a fielding effort. Epic fail.
