buchholz does seem like a good candidate to give up way too much in return for a long term deal. 6 yrs/20 million with 4 $8 million team options let us gogogo

No you're looking at it wrong. This is his 13th year. 11 were mediocre and the 2 that were/are great were 2004, a contract year and this year also a contract year. So if you're projecting, the 11 mediocre years are more indicative of his ability.

his year this year isnt all that abnormal from the past 4 or so, especially when you account for luck.

3b does look terrible this offseason though, especially since one has to wonder of youkillis moving to 3b on the whole would be smart.
