Young Red Sox fans,

You're going to hear a lot over the next week or so about how you now know what being a Red Sox fan is truly about. To some extent, this is true, what has occurred here fits pretty neatly into the "1918" vibe. On the other hand: 2004 and 2007. This does not sting as badly as when we hadn't seen any winning.

As for the haters, do not rise to their bait. They have plenty of reasons to be gleeful when we suffer. If you lived in a post-apocalyptic nightmare of a city you'd also be pretty bitter. But beyond that, let's face it, our teams have treated us pretty well for the past decade or so, better (arguably?) than any fans have ever been treated. There's a lot to envy, and we definitely haven't been shy about it.

We must now hope that the miracle Rays or somebody else keeps true Evil from prevailing this post-season.

See you next year,

LFS

the O's were obv aware of what was at stake and got caught up in the moment. they owned the sox these last few weeks iirc and it gives them some decent motivation going into 2012. theyre not the first team to celebrate in that manner after having ruined a teams like boston's playoff chances.

if BAL cruises to a win 7-1 or something i strongly doubt you see anything close to a celebration like that, but considering the drama involved and the emotions that were riding so high i dont think they were out of line celebrating in the manner that they did. plus, the team is full of young kids, and very few veterans, so you shouldnt come down on them too hard imo

hahahahahahA ya, 2004 totally negates 96,98,99,00, and '09, and every other playoff game in between in which he raped your faces off.

plz do not compare ANUSMOUTH to THE GREAT ONE

Actually, 2004 does exactly that for me. I'm not here to compare, Mariano is clearly WAY superior, obviously. Just pointing out that even Mariano has blown saves in big games.

I said this exact thing to my dad this morning. Sox have run REALLY bad with injuries the past two years.

Every team gets injuries. Stop blaming the injuries. We had enough quality out there to hold onto the lead we had, we blew it. Simple as that.

Pretty sure the starters weren't the ones out in the field botching routine plays, or getting thrown out at home, not converting bases loaded no outs or 1st and 3rd no outs, getting caught stealing, or inexplicably stopping between 2nd and 3rd. Yeah guys like Wake and Weiland were over matched, but often times the Sox just botched a routine play for the 3rd out in an inning and opened up the floodgates when their starter was cruising.

That's exaggerating a lot. Sure, the fielding wasn't perfect, but you can't just say that's the reason a staff puts up a 5.8 ERA and 1.53 whip. The offense scored the most runs in baseball in September and the team still goes 7-20. Unreal bad pitching.

lackey had some bad luck this year, he will not have a 6.41 era next year, id say hi 5's or low 6's is about right luck-adjusted

be interesting to see if they sell out every game for next season, season ticket holders took a bath the last 2 years and couldnt even recoup any money for the playoff tickets

Whats the word over there anyway? Who is getting the blame? Surely they aren't going to overreact and start firing people, left, right and centre?

On weei this morning there was a lot of speculation that Tito won't be back. Partially as a scapegoat, partially because he doesn't want to. He got asked directly if he wanted to come back last week, and he dodged it twice. But that is probably reading too much into it, as he's handled all questions about his contract extension very professionally.

Personally I think he's the best manager the sox have ever had and one of the top 2 in baseball. It'll be a shame if he's not wanted back.

It would really suck if Tito did go, huge fan of his. I'd dread to think who would replace him.
