Eh, given how broken most of them were and they only screwed the pooch in the last 4 minutes, I think they did OK. Kinda sad that we have probably seen the last of Shaq.

So what do the C's do going forward? Because they're only going to get worse in this Conference in the next few years.

Break up the Big 3? Trade for spare parts? Shuffle the bench? Seek out some outside talent (like Kevin Love, Monta Ellis, Deron Williams, etc)? Drag Danny Ainge out of the office and smack him?

Re: Boston Celtics

I feel conflicted. I had tickets for game 6 on friday but couldn't go. So now I'm a bit relieved about not having to unload the tickets. My amateur NBA analysis has determined that it's pretty clear this year was the end of the C's window. I'm just glad I got to see them win in '08 and be competitive since. I'll probably follow them as long as Paul Pierce is playing.

I really don't know. But I do know that we need a healthy Rondo. And he's not going to stay healthy if his whole game is forcing penetration. He just takes way too many hard hits constantly penetrating the middle without the threat of an outside game. It is imperative for him to develope an outside game and use it. This will open the middle for him and make the fewer times he penetrates easier and will cut down on the nasty spills he's always taking.

Re: Boston Celtics

The C's have salary cap problems next year, right? I don't think they can do much other than put the same team out there again.

Then, we throw money had Howard for '12-'13.

^^^i think, yes, seems like there is very little room. after next season KG is a FA (21M 2011-12) there will be a lot of room.

Re: Boston Celtics

I wish I could say I was confident for next year, but I'm really not. I just feel like it's going to be the Heat's conference for the next 6+ years. The Big 3 era had 4 years, 1 title, 2 trips to the Finals, but barring a miracle, I don't see how they get back. Maybe I'm still reeling right now, but I seriously have no idea what they're going to do. A lot of work to be done over the summer, because the bench will be even more critical next year. Looks like they're keeping Jeff Green, and I heard talk they're thinking of starting him (lol, wat?)... if he isn't putting up 20 points and 8 rebounds a game next year, I'll be very upset. I'm not mad they traded Perk. I'm mad they traded Perk for two incredibly overvalued players. Who the hell are they going to have for a Center next year?

Re: Boston Celtics

The Celtics regular broadcast station has been running old Celtics playoff games to fill the gap until the season resumes and I've been really enjoying them. The last one I watched was the 1963 title game against the Lakers. Celtics had Cousy, Russell, Heinsohn, Sam Jones, Sanders and Havlichek and the Lakers had West and Baylor.

It was fun to watch but I came away amazed by the lack of skill of these pros compared to todays players. So much so that I think that many top 30 Division 1 college teams could beat the 1963 Celtics. But tune in if you get the chance and let me know what you think.

Re: Boston Celtics

So are today's players that much more gifted, or is there more of a financial incentive for today's best athletes to pursue professional sports (and for coaching and development staff to surround them)?

Anything left about the Chris Paul for Rondo trade?

I think both. Athletes are better today than 40 years ago because of better nutrition and training, possibly genetics (humans are bigger and taller) and of course there is the monetary incentive to dedicate yourself to sport. Bob Cousy's top salary was around 15K and most of these guys had to work part time jobs in the off season. Today's athletes (most anyway) pretty much train year round. And also Peds have to be factored in.

Sounds like the Rondo trade is dead. Reportedly, Paul wouldn't agree to a contract extension and without that, the trade makes no sense for the Celts.

Bump for the C's first win of the season, even without Aztec Gino pumping up the fans.

Quote:
Aztec Gino out with a lower back sprain - will miss season opener! The other superfans - Balcony Gino, Lucky Charms, Guy with the green hair will make the Jungle as loud as ever!!
His return for Mondays game vs Washington is questionable.

Re: Boston Celtics

This is not looking good.

I would much rather just turtle up and have a bad year than trade pierce. With losing Garnett and Allen's contracts this next actual real off season I think we have plenty of rebuilding strength as it is. I couldn't bare to see pierce playing on another team. It would pain me equally to see him go to a better team or even a worse one.

I agree. Have to hope to pick up a couple good FA's with all that cap space, and hope to initiate a new Big 3 with Rondo as the centerpiece... kid just needs a ****ing jump-shot. Otherwise, guess it's say hello to another decade as a lottery team.

Just have to make the playoffs this year, make Boston an attractive hub for new talent, and go from there.

Still on tilt from useless Perk trade.

This was a pretty huge win tonight considering the roster we had available, and lol at the magic.

Re: Boston Celtics

Fantastic win indeed. I really hope Moore turns the corner. If he can hit some shots, and Bradley learns to dribble....we might be onto something with backups for Rondo and Ray. I love Bradley's defensive pressure! It would just be so awesome if he could figure it out on the other end.

Re: Boston Celtics

as crazy as this sounds i think there a better team with pietrus starting over ray. I know its a very small sample, but he creates miss matches and is a nasty defender and can drain 3s just as well.

Re: Boston Celtics

Any point to rebuilding now?

I just want to see them surround Pierce, Garnett, Allen, and Rondo with whatever is reasonable right now. After Pierce is done, I can go back to not caring about NBA.
