He would be a significant upgrade to their current CBs but I think that the rest of the NFL would still show up anyway.

I see you're back for another season of pessimism, Max.

No pessimism here. I agreed that Nnamdi would be a nice upgrade at corner which was a glaring weakness in 09.

A concern that I have as a Raven's fan is the aging of key defensive players such as Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, Kelly Gregg, Trevor Pryce and the loss of Justin Bannon. The replacements and backups for these players represents a dropoff in ability and versatility.

I'm more tentative that the changes on offense work out, namely that Joe keeps developing and he has chemistry with Anquan.

Ray still plays a high level and I think he's got another Pro Bowl caliber season left. If Reed does play, I don't think his talent is in question either, but rather his health. He's only 31 too.

Plus with Cody, Kindle and Jones drafted and what we have in place, our defense will continue to be solid imo. Ngata + Cody? Insane.

The continued development of the mostly young offensive line will be critical in how Joe Flacco adapts to the upgraded receiving corps.

Except for quarterbacks and kickers the words only and 31 should never be used together when describing NFL veterans.

Eh, I don't think Reed is at the point where he's going to totally break down. You listed Gregg and Pryce as aging veterans, and while I agree about their deterioration, they're a "level" older than Reed at 33 and 34, respectively (Gregg would turn 34 midseason and Pryce would be 35 before the season starts). Plus they take a lot more wear and tear than Reed does.

When someone has a chronic neck injury that causes them to miss several games and to even consider retirement they are old no matter what age they are.

So Reed underwent hip surgery in the offseason and is recovering.

Meaning... he'll be back, baby. Whoo hoooooo!

It was just a quick blurb in an email newsletter I got, said they were taking formations with Troy Smith and McGahee in the backfield in Wildcat. Let me see if I can dig it up.

Jamison Hensley, of The Baltimore Sun, reports the Baltimore Ravens practiced the wildcat formation during their minicamp last weekend with RB Willis McGahee taking the direct snap.
shrug, minicamp... I'm just antsy for Ravens news!

I would be surprised if Ray Lewis or any other veteran with a secure roster spot is upset by losing a week of training camp.

Ed Reed was quoted as saying that his hip feels like he is at 35% as of today. It is almost definite that he will miss all of training camp and likely to miss the beginning of the season.

Reed will begin the year on the PUP list, damn. Though we will probably average 40 points a game on offense so it shouldn't be that big of a deal.

I appreciate your enthusiasm for the offensive acquisitions, but the high powered Super Bowl Champion Saints averaged just under 32 points per game last year to lead the NFL.
