McCann and Upton looked pretty much awful there. This roller coaster of an offense is frustrating. 10 runs last night. Shut out tonight. How is that even possible over and over?

Ya that was weak. Got a little unlucky on some hard hit balls, but so did the DBacks. Win tomorrow please.

Also - Gattis HAS to adjust to that high fastball. He just can't swing at that pitch. Think his last week will make it way easier for Wren to send him down once Heyward is activated on Friday.

Even being a Braves fan, watching Uggla bail out on a called strike was amusing.

Wow too bad if it is Gattis, but maybe not such a bad thing. Will get more ABs than he would on the bench here.

Schafer actually looking consistently good this year

Yea, he's been pretty solid so far. He'll definitely regress a bit but he's good depth.

What's the BEST lineup right now when Heyward gets back?

1.) Schafer CF
2.) Simmons SS
3.) McCann C
4.) J Upton LF
5.) Freeman 1B
6.) C Johnson 3B
7.) Heyward RF
8.) Uggla 2B

or....

Well, despite the crappy road trip and rollercoaster offense, the Bravos are still in first. Blowing that Cincy sweep really changed the tone of the trip. But the worst is over because:

"That early travel schedule will certainly be envied by the Braves, who have a Major League-most 31 combined road games in April and May. That, combined with a late April/early May stretch in which the Braves play 14 of 17 games against the Tigers, Nationals, Reds and Giants, leaves Atlanta with one of the most demanding early schedules. Even though the cold bats can be maddening sometimes, I'm liking our position after this first quarter(40 games played) of the season.

I still think BJ > Schafer.

Honestly the *ideal* lineup right now is probably something like this (vs RHP):

1.) Heyward RF
2.) J. Upton
3.) McCann
4.) Freeman
5.) Uggla
6.) Francisco
7.) BJ
8.) Simmons

Venters just had Tommy John. His 2nd surgery. The list of people that came back strong after two TJ surgeries is prettttttttty short. This is likely all she wrote.

Always loved being at The Ted when he came in and they played Nicholson from The Shining's "Here'ssssssss Johnny" line.

Damn. RIP Venters arm. I heard on radio within a week ago that he was in uniform at the ballpark, too.

I was really rooting for him to get a multimillion dollar payday from someone. This sucks. Come back from TJ, reinvent yourself, have dominant success nobody projected for you, never earn more than minimum as you get abused pitching damn near daily.

When he was struggling last year and about to hit the DL, he just looked so beat and down when he came out to the parking lot, but still signed my hat and forced a laugh at my dumb, stolen joke. Wasn't wearing rich guy clothes like everyone else, etc, just seemed like a super great guy.

Ya.. poor Venters man... lets all keep our fingers crossed, I'm really pulling for the guy.

Me too. We really should be in much worse shape considering the lack of production out of BJ/Heyward/Medlen etc. and the schedule we've had. Luckily, a few people stepped up (Gattis, C. Johnson, Schafer, Justin) and have been able to hold the line until the reinforcements arrive.

Lucky for us the Nats have had their own problems. Strausburg can't buy a win and Harper leads with his chin.

So depressing about Johnny V. Longshot to come back.
