Not a whole lot of offense so far in this game, both teams are hitless, and only 4 balls have made it out of the infield.

Freddie Freeman breaks through for the first hit of the spring for the Braves. Still 0-0 after 5.

I wonder where Wren would try and improve if things aren't working out for us around the all-star break this season?

We have some financial flexibility and interesting minor league prospects, so he has some options, but is there anything this team really needs other than maybe a 3B?

3B isn't even a very big hole imo, I think a platoon of the 2 we have will be fine hitting at the bottom of the order. Our pitching is pretty loaded, and the only real question marks are at the bottom of the rotation/bullpen.

I guess it all depends on who's available and for what price, but what kind of player would you guys like to get if we decide to use the extra payroll on a mid-season trade?

I can't think of anybody that would be available, but I would love to pick up a top of the rotation starter, Hudson is a FA next year so the Braves could afford to take on a big contract with multiple years left.

I wonder what David Price would cost if the Rays have a poor 1st half? Teheran, O'Flaherty, and Graham (assuming these guys all have fantastic 1st halves) could be a starting point, but it would probably cost a lot more in real life.

Gattis went 2-3 today with a double and a BOMB.

Gonna be interesting to see what the Braves do with Gattis over the next few years if he keeps beasting it up.

I mean if he somehow turns into an Allen Craig type that will be so amazing.

I refuse to buy into his hype, because I don't want to get my hopes up, but the guy has MASHED at every single level he's played at.

Interestingly enough we don't have anywhere to put the guy over the next 3 years unless he can stick at catcher which seems unlikely.

Yup and he could be blocked at catcher anyway depending on how Bethancourt's bat progresses this season. My dream is for him to hold down 3rd like a boss but gl with that, right?

Honestly for things to go badly into the all-star break I think there would have to be some bad injuries accounting for that. And if there are then Wren will no doubt try and fill those holes. But unless there are like multiple season ending injuries in the rotation or something I don't see any big trades happening. We need time to replenish our farm system as well.

Yeah our farm system is pretty tapped right now.

Re: Gattis, I don't think there is even talk of working him over at 3B. I don't even think he's played any 1B, although as a catcher/corner OFer I'm sure he could handle 1B if he got some time to develop the footwork.

Honestly my dream situation for him now is that he crushes this Spring and breaks camp with the big league club as the backup C until McCann gets back. While in the big leagues he does well in the limited role for 2-3 weeks. We keep him up as our 5th OF/3rd catcher bench guy and he performs well in that role. We win the WS and then flip him in the offseason for a 3B or a bunch of prospects.

Heyward and Justin Upton went back-to-back yesterday. Upton's HR was apparently the longest ball ever hit at Disney (according to Braves MLB.com beat writer Mark Bowman).

We have a televised ST game on Thursday on MLB Network.

Dan Uggla got the sombrero today, 0-4 and 4 K's. Just spring training, I know I know.

I wish he'd just play to the back of his baseball card, but with the contract he's got I hope he isn't already in decline

Kimbrel been getting knocked around too.

Terdoslavich and Gattis have been raking, and not just against the weak pitching you see in the late innings of these games. Could see one (or both till McCann gets back) breaking camp with the big club.

Always thought Terdo could be a switch-hitting Hinske, which would be pretty ideal for this squad.

Most haven't even been available on there in terms of video. I've been listening to most of the games through the MLB At Bat App.

Terdo still raking. Him being that bench answer would be huge.

Any idea how much data the At Bat video uses?

How about the radio? I assume that data is pretty small.

No idea - I'm on a wireless network 100% of the time I use it.

Yeah, unfortunately that won't be an option for me. Bleh.

Still glad to have MLB.tv for the first time every this year. Already got to watch the game two days ago. Planning on enjoying today's game as well.
