Great spring. Leo Mazzonne has been praising his stuff so far on Atlanta radio. Supposedly works the entire corners of the strike zone well, not afraid to go high in and or out, supposedly good cutter, and smart like a lot of japanese pitchers are hyped for being. I expect him to be a big surprise to MLB and the national league. No hype at all like Dice K, deservedly so as him coming to MLB and Dice K coming cant be compared, but I like him being under the radar. He will end up as the #3 pitcher overall IMO

Kawakami owning Japanese-types:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UU1wMH6lXHQ

If he can locate his fastball and drop in his curve like THAT, I have absolutely no concerns about his MLB success.

Bonus unintentional comedy in goofy over-excited Japanese audio.

Tommy Hanson's first start in Triple A:

4.1 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 10 K

jesus.

What happens if Glavine pitches well when he comes back and Hanson continues to dominate? Are we content in waiting for one of the starters to get injured or suck? Is putting him in the bullpen even an option?

They'd cut Glavine or ask him to move to the bullpen (which he wouldn't) if it comes down to it. No way Hanson comes up to pitch in the bullpen.

I'm officially somewhat worried about the bullpen, and Mike in particular.

Last year and when he was healthy, I thought it was good how intense he looked on every pitch.

Now I think he might just be overthrowing everything like Jason Motte.

I dunno... I think Moylan and Campillo are both much better than what they've shown thus far this year.

I dunno..him overthrowing doesn't worry me..it happens. His stuff looked real good i thought.

Moylan doesn't look good at all unfortunately.

I thought Kawakami looked like he's going to be pretty solid overall, outside of the 2 run shot he gave up and a few walks probably out of jitters. 6IP 8K's 4BB (supposedly this is not normal for him so they should be less the more he pitches), and only 4H. Not outstanding but a good first performance to build on IMO

4BB had me really worried, but when you only give up 4 hits on top of that and strike out 8....you're doing all right for start #1.

Liking this start so far!

Yay for 4-1 and sort of annoying that it should be 5-0 but great start so far. A sweep tomorrow would be lovely.

Really excited about going to see Tommy Hanson pitch on Tuesday.

Still worried about our bullpen, but 4-1 almost 5-0 is hard to complain about. Sweep is hopefully coming as Washington hasnt won a game yet.

Glavine left during the 2nd inning of his rehab start due to 'shoulder discomfort'..doesn't look like he's gonna be able to start on the 18th. Tommy Hanson COME ON DOWNNN

I am an atlanta suburb baby. I think it's a rule that I have to like them.

If it makes you feel better, it's kind of a love/hate thing where I will be extremely disinterested and then have random bouts of being really interested.

I didn't really think we would be hitting this well. Averaging 6.5 runs. BA/OBP/SLG/OPS numbers for the team are .294/.363/.539/.902. Pretty good, and obviously lots of variance involved there but lets hope at least part of it is "offense is much improved".

Good to see we've won the 1st to vs Washington. We've been lol bad at playing down to our competition the past few years.

Not that any series in April is really big...

But this upcoming homestand with the Marlins will establish early captaincy of the NL East.
