What should the Nats defense have done in that double steal in yesterday's game? It doesn't seem like they made any glaring mistakes were made in the way they played it. I guess maybe the 2B should just hang onto the ball and look down the runner on third to prevent him from going home, and try to just keep runners on first and third? Seems like avoiding the rundown altogether is the only way to ensure a run doesn't score.

The more I think about it, that was a really bizarre play.

Was a pretty standard play. Whenever there is a run down like that, the guy at 1st is supposed to extend the pickle and the guy at 3rd is supposed to pick a spot to try to sneak in. Think the exact same thing happened the night before, and the guy was out by a mile. Heyward just WIM and made it in, rarely happens.

yea **** for this year..but they're making their window for competing smaller and smaller. In a couple years it's gonna be dominic brown and a bunch of 35 year olds with terrible contracts. And there's obv no guarantee that brown will become that franchise player they're counting on either.

Are we still projected to win the division(prior to Oswalt)?

73.9% according to Postseason Odds.

We have a 7.44% chance of making the wildcard, in addition. If the Oswalt trade causes us to lose a lot of % of winning the division, presumably our chance of winning the wildcard should increase substantially: we only play the Phillies 6 times so the trade only hurts our expected wins by at very most 2 games--realistically less than 1. In scenarios in which we were going to win the division, it's likely we would have had enough wins to win the wildcard as well, even if we lost a game to Oswalt that we would otherwise have won against another SP.

In sum, the ball is still in our court to make it to the postseason. This trade mainly affects the scenarios in which the NL East winner has fewer wins than the WC winner, which is not super likely at this point.

Time to have some good ABs and give him a hard inning. Last inning was about the worst 2-hit inning I could imagine in terms of usefulness and production.

Thanks for the heads up, Borgland, otherwise I wouldn't even be watching right now, but...

Haha, you should have seen my face, since somehow I had just assumed 12:35 was central time (totally my fault), I thought I was tuning in early about 5 minutes ago, you should have heard me yell, THIRD? ****ING THIRD? THIRD ****ING INNING?

Yeah, I'm on Central time so I'm very familiar with the time zones since I'm always having to subtract an hour or whatever, and that's what got me, just giving it no thought and letting my subconscious handle it.

It's the Natinals' fault, really. Who ****ing starts a game before 1:05 PM local time?

So my subconscious was like, "oh that can't possibly be before 1 eastern."
