Owings is coming back from offseason shoulder surgery, I think....same issue he was dealing with at the end of last season. Taking salary into consideration I definitely prefer Owings at 2B and Ahmed at SS as opposed to Owings & Hill. I may be higher on Owings than most. And supposedly Ahmed brings Andrelton Simmons type defense. Then I guess Lamb at 3B till they figure out what they're doing with Tomas.
That's not very encouraging. I've only seen highlights this spring. Haven't watched a single full game other than the 2 I went to over here in Surprise. No Dbacks games. I feel the only way Tomas helps is if he really becomes a star. Otherwise, we have plenty of serviceable players for much much less money.
Edit: I am going to the game at Chase Field tomorrow night so I will at least get one spring training game in before opening day.
Just read your post in the Braves thread. We went to the Dbacks fan fest and walked around the concourse (where the majority of the players were signing autographs) before leaving. It was usually a major leaguer teamed with a minor leaguer. There was about 30 people waiting in line for Bronson Arroyo. As we were walking, we saw a sad looking table with nobody waiting for it. My wife saw that it was Trevor Cahill and started laughing.
Anyone catch Derrick Hall this morning on 98.7? He is such a buffoon. Never says anything remotely approaching criticism even when facing questions like "How has Tomas looked at 3rd iyo?"
I am excited to see Ahmed field, though. Given our rotation, he will have ample chances.
I think the Dbacks will be fun to watch this year. Sure there will be plenty of frustration, but a team full of young guys with good attitudes usually keeps things entertaining. 84 wins this year. NL West Champs next year. You heard it here first.
I know it's only the 2nd game but is Hale going to be as bad as Gibson at sending out a different lineup every night? I guess if Hill comes out hot it'll make it easier to trade him?
