I do not play the football much on DK. Maybe during the Euro's and Copa America where there might be some edge doing homework on slept-on teams and players. Will practice for now using the MLS and LMX contests.

What was the winning points total on the King of the Pitch and what are the players on the winning line-up ? Doubt one entry could have nailed it.

I had the Chelsea and Everton games marked as likely for penalties. It depends on the ref, some are generous with it and some not. Good site below to check before each gameweek.

Last season finale had one penalty only not sure about before that it.

Never thought much about refs when making line-up's. That is till I saw a piece about spread market on cards and penalties. Been paying close attention since, especially as few yellow cards with a minus two is costly on Mondo. Also the penalty takers come into play as well.

Fantasy scout do a piece about it as well as you can see here for example.

I never thought Baines and Bertrand would take penos tbh. Sums up my day

I know Baines does. Bertrand was a surprise to me as well not gonna lie, especially with Pelle and Davies on the pitch.

Happy I was able to get out mun players in time (Jackson was only one I had really and martial in a spot).
Yeah think I remember seeing Old t had batted up bit of cricket score that day but wasent sure if that was his cash game lineup for the KOTP. 4th and 6th seems like a decent return anyway wp.

Giroud was the first name on my team sheet for that gameweek although I still reckon on most days he would have missed 2/3 of them chances.

I was shocked as well to see Bertrand on pens.

Baines was the default penalty taker for years at Everton. The last while Lukaku looks like he couldnt hit a barn door and has lost interest as usual and has no doubt signaled his intention to go in the summer anyway. So they prob figured that they might as well give pens back to Baines who will be there next season.

Is dfs offering Copa and euro 2016? Googled around a bit but couldn't really find an answer. I assume they do, but if they don't might have to check out other sites.

If I remember correctly I think DK have confirmed they are doing the Euros and I think they will do Copa America too. All the south american players seemed to have their team name displaying as their country name for a while, Coutinho was Brazil for example. So seems as if they were testing some things for the Copa America if I had to guess.

Hopefully eGR don't get annoyed with me for posting an article that's behind their paywall:

Quote:
FanDuel is planning to launch its UK product in early August in time for start of the new Premier League season, eGaming Review has learned.
The product will be football-only, having been built from the “ground up” specifically for a UK audience, according to the firm’s director of international marketing Karol Corcoran.

“We’re taking a different approach [to DraftKings],” said Corcoran. “The task we set ourselves was to build a new product that’s authentic for UK customers and that resonates with the UK market. We’re building that product up from scratch in our Edinburgh office.”

Corcoran said the new game would draw on the existing FanDuel format as well as UK season-long fantasy games, with a new approach to scoring that takes into account more of a player’s performance than headline stats like goals and assists.

“From the high level you’re still going to be selecting a football team, and staying under a budget, but the way it’s presented and the game mechanics are something we’ve really focused on. It’s much more reflective of football than the current game, where if your player doesn’t score or get an assist you don’t get any points,” Corcoran said

The UK game focuses solely on the Premier League and was built as a mobile-first product to reflect the differing demands of the UK audience.
“We think the vast majority of our users will download and play our products using the app,” added Corcoran. “The mobile sector is an area where fantasy is not as well served as it could be.”

Yes, read this reported in a few places too. It seems like they going about in a right way with the priority in developing a game from scratch that will have wider appeal. Gameplay and scoring is a key factor. You cannot just base it to having just a few hard-core players as most sites have become.

It does not make sense otherwise all the extra effort & investment in expanding into new markets with licence and regulation.

They will face even more competitors as I can list half a dozen platforms opening up in the summer for Euro 2016 or before the new season starts.

Fan Duel article sounds good. Although it would have made more sense if it read:

“We’re taking a different approach [to Fantasy Premier League],”

As DK have clearly already addressed things like scoring points for more than just goals and assists. Sounds like FanDuel will go for more of a British feel, maybe the salary in £s.

Hopefully this is the kick up the arse that DK need to start advertising on TV in the UK to get more people playing the soccer platform.

DK's current UK strategy seems really dumb to me. They've found the best way to minimise their return from those club branding deals.

I think the poorly worded article is saying the same as you. They will give points for other things (like DK) as they don't agree with the FPL scoring which is only for assists and goals

Here is a good piece on the state of play for Fan Duel in the US. It does sound like they struggling there. This part from the article is very telling and guessing it will be same for DK.

I have noticed this week DK are forcing me to watch adverts before entering teams through the app. Also the UK sites has adverts popping up.

FanDuel "considers itself to be operating lawfully, is currently defending its position and therefore the directors have reasonable expectations that the group has adequate resources to continue for the foreseeable future."

The accounts say it is making contingency plans, including a cut in variable expenses, likely to include marketing, advertising and prize money ,as well as delaying some operating cost payments.

The most recent accounts cover the 18 months to the end of June last year, before a blizzard of advertising and promotion last autumn brought attention to the scale of the business, and began the legal challenges.

During that time, FanDuel had turnover of $87.7m (£61m), up from $12m (£8.3m) in the preceding 12 months.

The number of active players rose from 253,000 during 2013 to 1.25m to the middle of 2015.

Between January 2014 and June 2015, it paid out $102m (£71m) in "service fees", and spent heavily on a fierce battle to build market share.

There was an operating loss for the 18 months to last June of $77.7m (£54m), up from $10.3m (£7m) during 2013. It continued to raise substantial funds through issuing equity, and remains in discussions on further investor fund-raising.

Facing the risk of being shut down by regulation and law, the company has cut its cash balances from approximately $274m (£190m) in the middle of last year to less than $48m, which it says should be adequate to keep it trading for a further 12 months - assuming it succeeds in its legal defence."

Looks like they more interested in marketing and branding deals to put more money in their coffers. I have seen they teamed up with Daily Telegraph newspaper to do more promotion for Euro 2016.

Short-sighted is the right word, but few of these platform's seem to excel in long-term planning. Rake it while it lasts seems the way.
