Here is a quick write up:

Daily Fantasy Soccer Basics

Scoring (Draft Kings):
Players will accumulate points as follows:
Goal = +10 PTs
Assist = +6 PTs
Shot = +1 PTs
Shot on Goal = +1 PTs
Crosses = +1 PTs
Fouls Drawn = +0.75 PTs
Red Card = -1 PTs
Saves (GK) = +2 PTs
Goal Allowed (GK) = -2 PTs
Clean Sheet (GK, D) = +5 PTs
One Goal Allowed (GK, D) = +2 PTs
Win (GK) = +5 PTs
Penalty Kick Save (GK) = +3 PTs

Team Selection (Draft Kings)
Rosters will consist of 8 players and must include players from at least 3 different EPL teams.
The 8 roster positions are: GK, D, D, M, M, F, F, Flex (any non-goalie)

Key Thoughts on Team Selection:

GK - Clean Sheets are pretty massive, but so are saves. You should always look to pick a GK that’s playing at home, and preferably with a team that has a good defensive record. It can be hard to balance a gk that makes a lot of saves and gets clean sheets, so looking for teams that are heavy home favorites is a good rule of thumb for GK selection.

Defenders - Outside defenders (fullbacks) are your bread and butter. The more attacking the better as they can provide cross points and assist points. You want to look for attack minded full backs that have favorable home fixtures where they may get clean sheets also. Some defenders such as Leighton Baines you take set pieces are even more valuable.

Midfielders - You generally want to avoid defensive midfielders, but you get penalized less so in Draft Kings since fouls committed don’t cost you points (this is massive shift in strategy from stat clash). The ideal midfielders are those playing the 10 role (lined up in the middle of the pitch behind the striker) and also wingers who are heavy attack minded. A lot of times you will find out of position players who are basically forwards but classified as midfielders in 4-2-3-1 setups who are great to pick up. Players you put in a lot of crosses, are creative/tricky (get fouled alot), and set piece takers.
Forwards - Having your forwards produce goals is a must, if your forwards are a bust you are going to get hammered badly. Look for high scoring sides with home fixtures, or teams with a home fixture against a side with poor defenses. Players that have penalty / set piece duty are great targets for players.

Recommended research -
Always look at the betting lines, and then find out the projected starting line ups for the home teams that are most favored to win.

After this take a look at home teams that score a lot of goals, or home teams that are playing teams that give up a ton of goals.

Keep heavily up to date on injuries and starting rotations. Soccer unlike other sports if someone you play doesn’t start they are unlikely to get any game time where in american football 2nd and 3rd WRs or RBs may still get reps. If one of your player doesn’t play or barely plays you are basically screwed. Player rotation is huge for the top teams who are participating in multiple competitions. Perfect example is Diego Costa for chelsea who is the hottest scoring player in the PL. Unlike football you will see him benched vs poor sides if they have big games in other competitions coming up. Usually you can get lineups on twitter an hour before game time by searching teamname xi. Always be ready to have subs in case starting 11’s change.

Please note the two fantasy sites are geared toward season long leagues so some advice may not apply, but it will provide some good tips and advice on any given game week.

In DFS there are basically two types of contests that you can enter: Cash Games and GPPs (Tournaments).

Here is a break down of what each type entails:

Cash Games - Head to Head, 50/50 (Half the field gets paid), Triple Ups (1/3rd the field gets paid) are all considered cash games. You are either playing against 1 person (head to head) or a field of people (50/50 or Tripe Up) with a flat pay out.

GPPs/Tournaments - GPP stands for Gauranteed prize pool and will have a top heavy tiered payout structure. There are also smaller games of this type that resemble sit and goes in poker and are 5/10/20 player pools with a tier payout.

There are two major concepts that you should take into consideration when creating teams for these two types of contests. They are High Floor or High Ceiling, or in simple terms consistency vs potential.

For cash games you will typically have only 1 or 2 line ups you will be using for all your contests. Because of this it is very important for your team to be able to reliably put up a decent score. You will most likely be playing a handful of different opponents and it will allow you to take advantage of people who make riskier picks that don’t pan out. The best way to do this is to have your line up spread out between many different teams using nailed on starters who consistently perform well. You want avoid stacking players from the same team, especially on defense, because if that team happens to have a poor weekend you are going to get crushed as it will be hard to make up the points elsewhere. Think of it like being in a satellite poker tournament, where on the bubble you are in great shape if you just have an average stack, and you don’t need to make any hyper aggressive moves to make the money. This is the high floor concept; you are putting yourself in a position where you shouldn’t ever have an awful score because one or two teams you expected to do well do really poorly due to having your lineup spread out.

For GPPs the strategy is a little different, and this is where stacking can really pay off. You are basically looking for a lineup that will have a high ceiling. You need to focus on games that have the potential to be blowouts and loading up on players from that team. Sometimes you will end up with as many as 4 players from 1 team in this situation. The reason for this is that on defense if you have a GK and Defender you profit doubly for having a great defense game (clean sheet mainly). For offense if you have Midfielder and Forward you can profit hugely when one is scoring and the other assisting and vice versa. Expect to have a couple different line ups for GPPs if you want to be successful since if one team performs poorly it will tank your lineup due to having stacked players from that team. You can think of it like a poker tournament where you are playing wildly aggressive to try and build a huge stack. Most of the time the outcome will be busting early or putting yourself in a great position to make a big cash. Most GPPs allow multiple entries so this is where you can take a couple different games that look to be blow outs and make lineups based around each of those games since one of them will likely end up being a blowout.

Scouting Games

The best way to figure out what games have the potential to be blow outs are by looking over the betting odds. You then look over the rosters of the teams that are huge favorites (***** ESPECIALLY HOME FAVORITES ******) and figure out who has the best potential to score points. Away teams that are huge favorites can tend to be trap games so be weary of loading up on players from these teams. Once you’ve looked at the odds, you can then look at teams offensive and defensive records to see what teams are likely to be scoring a lot, and what teams are likely to put up clean sheets. Once you combine these 2 major factors you can start looking at a more micro level regarding player and teams recent form.

Hope that helps and good lucky to everyone in the first week of draftkings daily fantasy soccer.

I've heard the commericials on the Fantasy station on XM that they'll match your deposit up to $200.

Do I/we get that by using the referral link you get? Any other promotions available (I doubt I'll be putting $200 in).

From everything I've read and heard these daily sites are loaded with full time sharks. I'd probably just do some of the small stakes (like $5 and less small) to check it out and have a little fun.

pretty sure they match it 100% up to $600 (released in increments), and yea you get that regardless of how you sign up.

you can also signup through sites like rotogrinders and they give out incentives like articles/data for signing up through them (i dont think anything available for soccer).

sites aren't 'loaded' with sharks, but there are a handful of people that do it full time.

Fwiw I started playing dfs soccer and fantasy sports period a month ago and started with a small roll and have grown it pretty decently. Im up to risking about 100-150$ a week now across 30 or so contests. Started out only doing 15 or so $ a week. I mostly play 50/50 and head to head and sprinkle a couple gpps.

Why doesn't DK make their scoring system like Premier League Fantasy? I like Fanday.com better especially for scoring and the fish that play there, but they don't have the big tournaments like DK. Are there any more that have Fantasy Soccer other than those two?

So if you reg through my referral link PM me your name on DK. I'm thinking I may do a once a month contest where I give a percentage of my referral earnings as a freeroll kinda thing.

Have everyone enter the .25cent contest and highest score amongst my referrals gets bonus from me. Or maybe do a "Duck Hunt" contest where everyone who finishes higher than me gets a bonus in a contest.

So far Das Boot is the only person I know of that regged and deposited.

Pretty close to the predicted winning score. My highest was 103. Everton / spurs stack + welbeck. Combined 16.75 pts between them. I ev pts was prob near 30 or so for those 3. If they win 1-0 with ade or erikson scoring or assisting I ship 10k. Guess thats what I get for picking spuds.

Looking forward to seeing how everyone else did.

Good stuff, duck sauce. I got in a few teams over the weekend. I finished in the money in a couple of those. The team I picked with the leicster striker (ulloua) helped me a lot. I have been playing fantasy soccer at other sites. I am excited draftkings are making dfs as part of their game offerings. It will get more interesting as the top performers from this weekend, their salary is going to go up.
