Re: RATE MY DRAFT thread

Honestly think every team made at least one major mistake at some point except maybe team 4. 10 probably best and even they picked a defense playing @NE week 1 in round 10

Re: RATE MY DRAFT thread

Just finished another casual friends draft.

I switched my team on the draft board this time so my team isn't highlighted. Felt pretty meh about this one, but we'll see.

12 teams
PPR
1pt/10 return yards
6pt passing TDs
1 QB
2 RB
3 WR
1 TE
1 W/R/T
1 D
1 K
1 IDP, but who cares

I think teams 1 and 5 actually started the first 5 rounds best given the format, where ideally you want to be starting 3 solid rbs and a good qb every week, and WRs don't matter nearly as much...

That said, the draft board looks like most of the league was auto-drafting?

Standard scoring + only 2 wr + want to be flexing rb usually + huge qb bonuses

That format devalues wrs about as much as you can, and again shows why any league not starting 3 wrs is stupid with how deep the position is.

Just in case it wasn't obvious - the "clowns" include: Tyler L at 2.11, Jimmy Graham in the 3rd, and a lot of the early kickers. Freeman over AB is meh. As much as people (correctly) rag on others for drafting a kicker in round 10, the mistake of taking Lockett or Jimmy Graham so early is way worse of a mistake than Mason Crosby in round 10.

Teams that I think are ok/decent: 4, 12, 8, 9

'Few clowns' was tongue in cheek, it's a league made up of my cousins. Some of them are just bad and a few of them started auto-drafting once Game of Thrones started.

I was Team #1. Had the same thoughts as Malice's Attorney coming into the draft regarding QB being more important and WR being less important than usual. This was my first draft and the most casual league, so I only really did 10 minutes of prep and ended up going for some FPS'y picks.

2/3: Considered Zeke/Rodgers/Gronk. I regret not taking Gronk, but felt it was alright to take Rodgers given format.

4/5: Considered Reed/ARob/Hunt/Davante/Diggs/CJA. Just went with preference. In hindsight not taking Hunt seems pretty bad.

6/7: Considered Sammy/Martin/Desean. Decided I needed the 3rd RB for sure and that Sammy is healthy and in a contract season, so why not gamble.

8/9: Obviously it's bad to take a 2nd QB in the 8th round (esp when you have Aaron Rodgers). Took Cam because of format and potential trade value, thinking I'd be able to exploit people easily if Cam looks good and when one of the teams inevitably need a QB. Probably should have taken a RB to go along with Garcon instead. In hindsight I probably would have chose Frank Gore for stability given Zeke/Martin situations.

10/11: Felt Rawls/Hogan were fine and good depth and value. Probably could/should've taken Maclin over Hogan and Riddick over Rawls?

12/13: Quizz to cover for Zeke/Martin and Corey Davis as a last bench spot gamble.

Re: RATE MY DRAFT thread

First of four drafts for me the other night. Drafted 10 out of 12. Two WR league with one flex. Off top of my head, 0ppr:

Rivers (12)
Mixon (3), West (7), McFadden (9), Hill (10), Charles (11), Bernard (15)
Evans (1), Dez (2), Jeffrey (4), Crowder (5), Rishard Matthews (8)
Graham (6)
Janikowski and Panthers

Decided to roll heavy WR as I did last year when I won plus I couldn't say no to Evans at 10. Plus I hated virtually every back for value when it came my time to pick. Just decided to nab all the Bengals backs to lock down a starter once that mess sorts itself out.

Seems like a pretty chalky draft. Get in a different league imo. Like team 2 the best. 1 and 10 are ok too.

Medium bad. Good picks in the odd rounds, meh-bad picks in even rounds, Theilen was fine though.

As others have mentioned, 2wr/1 flex non-ppr leagues devalue WR's regardless of what happened in this specific league last year, but I still don't mind the Evans/Dez/Jeffrey picks too much. Mixon in 3 and Crowder in 5 are tough to defend though, especially since Mixon cost you 2 extra picks too. Picking a 4th WR in this setup in the 5th round seems quite bad and instead of drafting 3 guys who could pay off, you have 3 roster spots taken up hoping for 1 guy paying off (and who knows, they could easily all disappoint if they are splitting the load too much), don't like that strat if you're playing to win.

All fair criticisms. I mainly just hope to leverage superior waiver wire skills as RB always come easier there.

Re: RATE MY DRAFT thread

Ill be drafting from pos 1 in a league with the same rules.

Pos 1 seems hard to work with.

Ill be getting picks 1,24/45, 48/49, 72/72...... which I dont believe work too well together.

Ill pick DJ, from there if i look at the possible options left open to me (given other members pic with ADP in mind) It'll never allow me to draft a player with a bye week in 6,7,8 without reaching down to take a player with ADP 10 + from the draft round.

pic 1 DJ (8 bye)

pic 24/25, two of

elliot (6 bye)
thomas(5)** (lucky to get)
dez(6)**
brady (9)
gronk (9)
hilton (11)
cooper (10)
cooks (9)
lynch (10)
miller(7)

Pic 28/29, two of

jeffrey(10)**
mattryan (5)**
adams (8)**
allen (9)**
hill (11)
crabtree (10)
anderson (5)
olsen (11)
ingram(5)
reed (5)
landry(11)

pic 72/73, two of

marshall (8)**
eiffert (6)**
diggs(9)**
peterson (5)
martin (11)
luck (11)
winston (11)
blount (10)
crowder (5)
carr (10)
newton (11)
gore (11)

once I have completed my 72/73 pics, I will have a full starting line up (no kicker, no def). Ill use my 96/97 pic to get a backup RB and hopefully gotskowski and then get a defence and another rb backup with my 120/121 picks.

Something like DJ, Brady, cooper, anderson (adams of allen if im lucky), olsen/reed, marshall, crowder (blount or gore if i get wr instead of anderson), stewart, gotskowski

or take top wr and get,

DJ, hilton, cooper, olsen, tyreek hill, martin or blount or gore, winston/newton/luck, stewart, gotskowski.

I do like option 2, it allows me to pick the plentiful rb in pics 72/73 (not alot of wr there).

Is anyone else drafting from pos 1? any good strategies?

Re: RATE MY DRAFT thread

Yeah, don't factor in bye weeks at all, don't plan out what position to take in each round (take the value that falls to you, especially in the later rounds, don't be overly concerned with "filling out your roster"), and for the love of god, DON'T take a kicker in the top 100 picks (or anytime before the last two rounds for that matter).

If you can get Gronk with your 2nd pick I'd def go for it. Otherwise going WR/WR in 2/3 is usually a good option from the 1 spot (though I'm not too high on Hilton, something like Cooper/Cooks would be ideal imo if Gronk is gone) unless an RB unexpectedly falls. I would never take a QB that early in a league without weird scoring or superflex.

Re: RATE MY DRAFT thread

First big $$ draft for me:

0.5 PPR, 1QB/2RB/2WR/1TE/1FLX/K/DEF, top 6 make playoffs

(I edited everyone's kicker to be the final round so as to avoid "lol kicker" comments - first one was taken in round 12 )

Philosophically/theoretically I agree with this, except that I would nitpick to say that "taking value that falls to you" is more important in the earlier rounds (i.e. the "high leverage" rounds) than later rounds.

Suppose that during the first 8 rounds, the best "value" picks for me are 6 WRs and 2 RBs (especially common for me in full PPR) - then during the second half of the draft I'm going to be inclined to load up on RBs - and depending on what my roster looks like (and what "value" is available, of course ), I might prefer pass-catching RBs in some instances and "handcuff" RBs in other instances.

Said somewhat differently, making a "mistake" in an early round can tank your draft much more than a mistake in a later round.

Despite complete opposite strats, I think the two teams I like most are 3 and 11.

Yeah, perhaps I phrased that poorly. What I was referring to was that "filling out a roster" tends to be an overrated concept among ff novices. So if it's between picking a RB that has dropped for your bench or a starting QB, TE or even WR3, it is often better to pick the RB. And in particular with QB and TE, it is often better to pick multiple bench players before selecting your starting QB and/or TE.
