NFL Fantasy season: Full engagement vs life balance NFL Fantasy season: Full engagement vs life balance

Hey guys, I just wanted to see people's takes on managing and balancing fantasy football with life. Fantasy Football can be a very engaging game. A redraft season can begin in August up until early January (5 months) with content and information coming out on a daily basis.

Last year I watched every single NFL game, and I managed 9 fantasy teams. This year, I plan to manage fewer teams. I'm thinking a number like 5 and up to 7 maximum. I am also hoping not to watch every single game. Last fall/winter, I was going through a stressful and depressing time, where I stopped exercising and only watched football, UFC and played poker. I played online poker every single day for 7 straight months.

This year I plan to be open to skipping NFL games, and keep up with fitness by martial arts classes, and have a fitness plan for being in top shape by the start of summer with a June 1 deadline date. I also want to get out and watch some games at a pub with a good buddy of mine, which is something I didn't do last year. I watched every game from home.

I was just wondering how do you guys manage NFL fantasy with life? Are you guys fully engaged and taking in content from multiple podcasts/YouTube channels daily and watching every game? Or do you guys skip games and are able to maintain balance in your lives with fitness, social life and other hobbies? Fantasy can be a very engaging as well as addicting hobby, so I just wanted to see what your experiences are like.

I mainly just watch a few vids by a couple of content creators on youtube and mainly just watch them during my lunch break or to get to sleep. I mean I guess in the past month I've been watching more as it's the lead up to draft season.

I also certainly don't watch every game, being from the UK it's almost impossible to and have life balance, but I will check out the highlights just to see if there is a certain player getting some hype on their team.

I mainly just make Sunday a compete day off when it's football season and get get loads of food and beer and I'll sit and watch the Chiefs game and the redzone until I pass out on the couch during the last games.

Basically I could try alot harder with fantasy but I really enjoy it and would hate for it to go the same way with poker where I was over obsessed and made it just feel like a job.

Listen to the Footballguys recap show on a Monday and the waiver up/down show on a Tuesday, both while at work so no time is lost there, their lineup tools and inactive reports save a bunch of time as well

Ya I guess if you can take in your content during work, it isn't as big of a waste of your personal time. Also with regards to content, one mistake I used to make was listening to multiple sources like Fantasy Footballers, ESPN, Fantasy Pros, Pat Mayo and BDGE. I've found alot of the opinions and takes are pretty redundant, so I'd prefer to just stick to one or two sources. Mainly dependent on who I enjoy listening to more.

I'm also trying to make Fantasy a hobby I enjoy more, rather than focusing on winning and making it feel like work, because at the end of the day, even if you have a winning season, it will basically be paying a few cents per hour, if you put so much time into it.

Ah ok, I had never heard of Footballguys before, but I'll check them out. Ya I'm sure tools can save you alot of time depending on how many leagues you are in and how much content you are or are not able to take in.

I play in 5 leagues (down from 6 last year) that are all casual players that I feel I have a decent edge over. I watch every GB game, most every thurs, sun & mon night game and usually 2 more games on Sunday. I also get footballguys emails that are about 5/week (love them) and read 2 hours of fantasypros articles a week. Fantasy pros also has a lot of great tools and content I use like trade analyzer, waiver pick up, start/sit and rest of season rankings. Posting and reading on 2+2 has been a massive help as well.

Read/check headlines/this forum for ~30 min/day on weekdays and a little more on weekends is enough for me

Another time saver I recently added was to get some wireless earbuds to listen to fantasy podcasts while at the gym. Makes gym time (especially 40 min cardio walks on the treadmill) go by way faster.
