Ya I hear that that some players will help and hurt you at the same time, which is alot of what my buddies say, but I've tried to view players in NFL fantasy more as pieces on a game board or cards in a deck. When I win in poker, I'm more focused on my win/loss at the end of the day, rather than what hands did well to win me pots.
I have only been playing for a few years now. I really got into it and found two teams didn't satisfy my cravings. I then added DFS lineups, but I found those to be very negative EV games for me, so I got away from them.
In the years I've done NFL fantasy, this is the number of teams I've managed:
2015 - 2
2016 - 2
2017 - 0. I did FanDuel this year, and then got away from it after one season
2018 - 2
2019 - 2
2020 - 1
2021 - 9. First year doing Yahoo public leagues.
2022 - 7
I hope 7 is a good spot where I can be engaged, but not waste too much time on waiver decisions and free agent adds/drops, on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. I'll see how this number works for me this year and then scale it back if needed.
One thing that I am keeping in mind going into this year, is that as much fun and addicting as fantasy football can be, it is also the least important and least impactful thing in my life. The buy ins for my leagues are $20 and $50, so any profits this year would basically amount to pennies per hour. It would still be really fun though. But fitness, social life, work, and any errands in my life are more important.
