Last year I managed a personal high of 9 teams. Previously, I had always managed 1 or 2. This year I'm going to scale back a bit to 7, because I don't want fantasy to take as much time as last year.

Just curious, how many teams do you guys prefer to manage in a season? I know the professional industry people will generally a few teams. Like Cynthia Friedlund with NFL Network said she had 7 last year. I believe Dan Schneider with CBS said he ran 14, but felt it was too much. But I'm sure some hard core gamblers run more than that even.

I started with 1, then when I got into it, went to 2, then was obsessed with it and went to like 6...then realized it wasn't as fun with that many (too many weeks a guy would score a TD and help me on some teams and hurt me on others). Dropped it back to just 2 again and much happier.

Ya I hear that that some players will help and hurt you at the same time, which is alot of what my buddies say, but I've tried to view players in NFL fantasy more as pieces on a game board or cards in a deck. When I win in poker, I'm more focused on my win/loss at the end of the day, rather than what hands did well to win me pots.

I have only been playing for a few years now. I really got into it and found two teams didn't satisfy my cravings. I then added DFS lineups, but I found those to be very negative EV games for me, so I got away from them.

In the years I've done NFL fantasy, this is the number of teams I've managed:
2015 - 2
2016 - 2
2017 - 0. I did FanDuel this year, and then got away from it after one season
2018 - 2
2019 - 2
2020 - 1
2021 - 9. First year doing Yahoo public leagues.
2022 - 7

I hope 7 is a good spot where I can be engaged, but not waste too much time on waiver decisions and free agent adds/drops, on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. I'll see how this number works for me this year and then scale it back if needed.

One thing that I am keeping in mind going into this year, is that as much fun and addicting as fantasy football can be, it is also the least important and least impactful thing in my life. The buy ins for my leagues are $20 and $50, so any profits this year would basically amount to pennies per hour. It would still be really fun though. But fitness, social life, work, and any errands in my life are more important.

Yeh the seasons not even started yet and I'm already getting confused with my 4 redraft and 4 dynasty teams.

I feel I've made a big mistake

Haha best ball is the way to go for volume.

I have 3 redraft and 4 dynasty. I plan to up the dynasty some, but it's so much more straight-forward with bare wires and mostly easy sit/start decisions. Plus, you can actually put in a lot of work in the off-season when the weekly time commitment is much lower. I doubt I'll ever add more redraft. I had 4 last year and feel better with 3 this year. Those are the big time pulls during the season.

Ah interesting point. I was fading the idea of dynasty, because I didn't want to think about fantasy in the off season and take a break. But I guess there is a time saving factor in that you don't have to worry about potentially drafting every player like in redraft.

I was 1 to 2 for the longest time (since early 2000s) until a few years ago when I went to 4. Been 4 last 3 years and that is likely my max. Once you get 6+ every play is a positive and a negative for you and makes sweating impossible, which is the main fun of the game to me.

Also, Tuesday nights become unbearable.

3 - all redraft

Prior job work league - Low money auction with standard scoring. Don’t really care about this one or the people in it, but the field is soft AF and I keep cashing so I stay in it.

Current job work league - medium money snake draft. 14 teams, standard scoring. Too many bench spots makes it so shallow, one injury screws you. Have been near last every year I’ve been in.

Friends league - Biggest money, 16th year running with mostly the same people. Snake and .5 PPR, just switched to 2QBs this year. 10 teams. Only one I really care about. Had 9th pick and screwed up bad taking Chase over Hurts at the top of the 2nd. Oh well, will adjust next year.

Think that’s about as many as I can handle without it overlapping too much.
