Yeah I cracked and did my first mock last night. It's that time.

This thread is not a place to discuss trades or mock drafts or drafts. It's just general fantasy football talk. So have at it.

My first topic: It sucks picking an RB after AP is picked this year. In leagues that allow it, I think trading down from #5 is going to be correct a lot of the time.

I think it depends alot on the people in your league really and having an idea what they are going to do. I mean any pick in the top 4 im very happy with (Mccoy, charles, AP and forte in basically any order though forte 4th most likely)

For example In one of my leagues I can say with 95% certainty that peyton manning will be gone in the first round, though probably not correct it will almost certainly happen. So I really think it depends on your league, I think the middle picks of the first round are where it gets awkward. If you are late R1 you can either grab two very solid Rbs (murray, morris, gio, martin, foster) or go RB/WR and have a really nice start to your team.

Its when you are in the middle and are faced with what is to me the super awkward spot of "the best rb's are gone but calvin is still here... do I take him?" because if you do take him you are inevitably going to be somewhat weak at the rb spot

The real question for me is where do I take Jimmy Graham

i think the top 5 is pretty fine no matter who youre getting. im personally ranking them AP, McCoy, Charles, Forte, Lynch, but you can't really go wrong. After those 5 though there's a weird drop off to guys who i'd not feel great about being my RB1 (morris/gio/lacy/bush? moreno in miami? ball? rice possibly suspended?)

the injury risks are most intriguing to me - foster, martin, murray, but if they're my RB1 I'm not feeling great

im really curious how the rookie WRs are going to impact the rest of what seems to be another year of really deep WRs.

I agree mostly although I am not super excited with lynch just because of the rumors surrounding the RB by committee and christine michaels emergence

im not gonna take any rbbc stuff seriously for seattle till i see it during the season. lynch could sit out the entire pre season just resting and i think hes the clear #1 until he proves he cant handle it. that said, michael is probably the first handcuff guy im drafting

really not loving the 6-8 spot at a first glance. mccoy/charles/adp/forte seem fine, i'm taking megatron at 5, but if he's not available then i'm not really liking using that high a pick on someone like lacy or lynch, and it seems a bit excessive to start grabbing the second receiver off the board. maybe i just take graham, idk

Consensus across the board is Jimmy Graham is an slam dunk can't miss first rounder, and that taking him ahead of Megatron is pretty ok/fine. The gap between Mega and the next best WR is way smaller than the gap between big Jimmy and his next competition.

I'm glad everyone is frustrated by that #6-#8 spot, means I'm not too fishy. I've been struggling with capping these guys the most at RB in PPR:

-Stacy (what's all this talk of him losing his job?)
-Doug Martin (would anyone really be shocked to see him finish top 3)
-Reggie Bush (dude is going at a massive ADP discount right now for the #9 back last year in PPR)
-Anyone wearing a Bills uniform (I may honestly draft none of them for fear of having no idea who to draft where)

I'll probably try not to have Monty Ball or Le'Veon Bell as my RB1 too many times (for sure it's going to happen 1-2 times), because I could see that being a nice short cut to being a bottom place team if the chips don't fall exactly right. I'll trade down there, particularly in the case of Le'Veon.

Btw this is another year to wait on drafting WR's in my opinion. The guys available later, for what they could produce, are pretty stellar (I'm looking at you Shorts, Patterson, Maclin, Evans, Emmanuel Sanders). There will be some mid round WR's putting up winning numbers for sure. Hoping I manage to get 1-2 on every team I draft.

Ok seriously. A mod needs to edit the title because the lack of capitalization is going to drive me nuts.

Last year there was a lot of talk about this around this time of the year. But once we got to August Graham was going much later. By my last draft he was taken in the middle of the third round (which was WAY too late in my mind).

I plan on starting my mocks after the 4th of July. I was never happy with my team in the mocks last year when I took Graham early. Interested to see if that changes with how bad the RB crop is.

Last year I never saw him go past #13. In one league he went a bit later and it was my biggest noob league. I think it'll be about the same this year, and only P Manning and Brees will maybe push him lower based on scoring formats. Otherwise he's gonna be the in style guy at #9-#11 I think.

I can't wait to see how many people absolutely spazz on Peyton. I expect to have him in like 0 leagues.

Maybe not the right thread for this, but if you haven't tried DFS NFL I'd highly recommend it.

Debating putting Brees ahead of him in my rankings, if only just to make me feel better about sometimes landing my top QB.

In any kind of ppr format I can see Graham being a solid 6/7th pick. In a standard, can we put Martin or lacy ahead of him?

I certainly think graham is deserving of a first round pick, I have owned graham in a good portion of many of my leagues over the past few years and have never been upset at the end of the season with where I took him. especially last year in my big league where I had first pick in 14 team league; AP 1st and got Jimmy graham end of 2nd, Demarius thomas beginning of 3rd. Needless to say I won that league. I think If I ever see graham in the 2nd round Im taking him over just about everyone, I'm not sure I would take him earlier than 10th but I am one who really loves to get his RB situation settled early

Watch Seattle's preseason games, imo. What you want to watch for is Michael being on the field for called passing plays and him successfully executing his blocking assignments and routes out of the backfield. If that happens, look out. Then it might get really hard for Carroll to keep him off the field. Last year, Michael showed plenty as a runner, but his work in the passing game wasn't up to par. There are rumors he's improved a lot, but we won't know for sure until camp and preseason. Seattle takes the preseason very seriously.

Not a big fan of Lacy in the 1st round, although I somewhat understand it. Murray in the 1st round is something I would never do

Pretty much this. There is great value in Graham. But there is still only 1 TE on your team. There are 2 RB.

If you took Graham mid first last year you would have had to have binked Woodhead or Moreno later to end up with 2 good RBs. And that's if you were right on your 2nd round back.

I tend to agree with you re:lacy I'm just not sure which 11 guys I'm taking ahead of him.

Ap, McCoy, forte, lynch, Charles, megatron, graham...Martin? Spiller? Green? Gio?

Just due to sheer volume I really like Le'Veon this year. I'd take him late first.

Also think I'm gonna have Spiller in about 0 leagues. If he falls to the mid-2nd, sure. But I'm kinda over spending a 1st rounder on him.

And yeah, Jimmy in the first seems like good value, but missing out on those RBs are just ugh. Every time I did a mock and got Graham in the first I hated my team.
