NFL DFS is almost upon us once again.

I discovered the glory that is DFS before week 1 of last season and saw it grow exponentially over the course of just 17 weeks. In week 4 (5?) DK offered their first ever Millionaire Maker which was supposed to be the first of 4 during the course of the year. Instead they offered it every remaining week of the season. We saw how much DFS could grow off a small base last year, but also witnessed a full season of ads during sporting events and the continued marketing push through the ~8 months since the regular season ended. It will be exciting to see how much the game grows this year as it seems unlikely that too much of the new money is extremely sharp even though there will surely be some long-term winners coming from the growing player pool.

The big GPPs are published and so are week 1 player salaries and now important players have already started going down (lol Arian Foster) and paved the way for value plays to be extremely clear 4.5 weeks before the games even start (hi Alfred Blue in cash games).

Week 1 might be the single largest FREE MONEY event of our lifetime. I am thinking of redepositing and going allin week 1 just to collect as much of it as possible even though my current roll is more than double the amount of action I put in at any point last season.

I have always hated the top heavy payout of the Millionaire Maker, but at least for Week 1 this was solved by DK since they decided to just go ahead and put $10MM out there and structure it a little more like the top heavy, but not 100% absurd payouts of poker tournaments. 572,500 people sounds like some type of joke and I am hoping for about $2MM in overlay, but we will see if they actually know what they're doing. They've been getting $3MM for golf majors so I guess $10MM isn't impossible.

I hope at least 3 2p2ers take down a $1MM+ GPP payout this year. I claim one of these spots. Signup below for the other two.

Let us gogogogogogogogogogo

The real question is, what will Yahoo/CBS/Pokerstars(?) bring to the table?

Going hard. Would like to top my profit from last year. Don't know why the big week 1 GPP needs to be 2mil to first, would greatly prefer 1.

Also pre season contests are up on DK as well. Not sure I will do more than dabble though, seems tough.

I do agree that $1MM to first and then spreading the extra million over places 11-500 or even as much as 11-2500 would be a lot better.

so far a near exact clone of FanDuels muddy interface, really wack structures and terrible rake in HU cash games, hopefully the aforementioned soft money comes wafting in this NFL season to strike some kind of a balance

Quote:
PRIZE PAYOUTS (YAHOO) on $5.00 buy in 10K guaranteed MLB tourney 2273 entrants ($1365.00 rake)

1st $1,000.00
2nd $700.00
3rd $300.00
4th $250.00
5th - 6th $175.00
7th - 9th $125.00
10th - 12th $90.00
13th - 16th $65.00
17th - 22nd $50.00
23rd - 30th $40.00
31st - 41st $30.00
42nd - 56th $25.00
57th - 147th $15.00
148th - 426th $10.00
427th - 571st $7.00

Also noticed for comparison Fanduel's $500 H2H is $535, with the winner recieving $1000 ($70 in rake) while yahoo uses a $500 H2H (2 players) that Pays out $935.00 = $65.00 rake. Slightly different structures and without doing any calculations I'm guessing FD is slightly better.

just glancing at the Week 1 salaries on DEF, kind of surprised to see Cincy ($4600) @ Oak priced so high...

Cincy no doubt has a strong def on paper, but with this being Week 1, and a full distance road game, with centerpiece Linebacker Burfict more likely to end up on the PUP list week 1-6 than the field, now you throw in a Home team used to playing in a very tough division and maybe looking to make some kind of statement on offense after picking up a few weapons - and you have me scratching my head on why u would pay $4600 for that? OAK is the bottom of the barrel price on FD at $4000 fwiw

I won't be chasing the million dollar payday, but I'm pretty hyped about the upcoming season. So much money up for grabs everywhere, including the smaller sites that have the best value/overlay. I hope CBS gets it's act together in regards to their 1099s, but if not, we got plenty of options. Loving baseball, but NFL can't get here soon enough!

Definitely dipping into the DFS waters for the NFL this year.

Does anyone have a rake comparison for each site? Also what site is deemed the softest games? Just trying to decide where the majority of my play will be.

everywhere should be soft this year given the marketing push and money raised in the industry within the last 12 months. DK and FD will have the best players on them, because that is the only place the true sharks can get in tons and tons of volume, but they also have by far the biggest advertising budgets and prize pools which will attract the most casual players who are putting <$100/week into play while knowing only about injuries and things they pickup from watching the games and nothing else.

The rake and rewards programs at the smaller sites are much better than fd/dk. You won't be able to chase a million at those sites, but there's certainly plenty of action. Unless you plan on playing 10k+ a weekend, the smaller sites will be able to support your play.

As for what site is softest in terms of competition? IMO, targeting perceived 'soft' sites is overrated. What I suggest is choose one site and get comfortable with their scoring and salaries. So long as you're prepared each week, you won't have to worry about the perceived skill level of the competition at any given site.

Glancing at the DK $10 Million and these payouts are pretty insane.

1st $2,000,000
2nd $1,000,000
3rd $500,000
4th $250,000
5th $150,000
6th $100,000
7th-8th $75,000
9th-10th $50,000

I understand wanting to have a huge 1st place to attract attention, but good lord.

I'm not seeing what the difference is between a

League Manager league
Custom Leagues
ESPN Standard Leagues
ESPN Prize Eligible Leagues

I'm glad to see DK is offering such a big tournament, but still feel the payout structure is too top heavy. I'll probably be focusing most of my play on smaller sites (or possibly CBS/Pokerstars depending how they turn out) that have better player rewards or less/zero rake, and while not as big of a top prize, a better overall ROI expectation.
