The strategy of that is exactly why I love the dynasty format and doing keepers instead like your suggesting takes that away completely. And it's not like people are going to be completely screwed if they draft predominately older players, there will be rookie drafts for every sport. Which is also why we need larger benches to have enough space to be able to take in a few rookies every year.
i'm saying with a
larger number of bench spots, i'd want some kind of mechanism which would ensure some roster turnover because pretty much every player of any significance will be owned. i think its ok with the default amount of roster spots. i dont see why you cant have young players with less roster spots? that just adds to the strategy of cost/future benefit on rostering young players.
for example in baseball, if we roll with 30 man rosters + minor league spots, its going to play more like a 16 team league in terms of players owned, which is crazy deep and will play like an AL or NL only league.
whatever just my .02
