It's beginning of the MLB draft, but we should have some kind of rule about not trading the DPs even if they don't involve NBA, at least until dues are collected. I don't think dan or drew are leaving anytime soon, but we should still have something in place about not trading picks too soon.

he traded me his 2018 NBA 1st in our tatum deal, but he had already traded it to loosekanen. so im gonna get his NBA 2019 1st instead. seemed the easiest conclusion.

I try my best to record trades where possible but ultimately it should be one of the owners that executed the trade to do so IMO

Really though, we should either set a date about when we can trade 2019 picks or not. We’ve not traded picks until the season starts, we either have a start time or not. It just matters in everyone’s trade talks

This league is so weird.

I mean, I get that the difference is that your (Othello) and Hurps deal involved a player in the 2018 season and these don't, but still, it seems weird to have trades out there that are still confirmed for the future. If it's a matter of just agreeing to something over PM and then once the picks can be traded, then posting them, that somehow feels better to me at least.

But we should have something written out for it, cause it seems weird to spend 2 weeks saying we can't trade picks before the start of the season and then a week before the start of the season just start trading picks...especially when we haven't even set a date for the MLB draft to start or started collecting dues

It’s not about feelings, we just can’t trade those picks. Like, if someone wants to trade something they just traded for for an nba player, thats not ok at all. And keeping track of that seems like a nightmare

Othello - much as it made me do a triple take (thus my post before) I think it makes sense.

They're pretty much shortcutting a trade that they are going to agree to in the future. The difference is that we couldn't do that because part of the deal was for someone whose season is already ongoing before the start of the 2018 season (Melo - NBA). Technically they can't execute the deal until the start of the MLB. Agree I suppose that maybe it's better done by just announcing the deal on the appropriate date, but this is kind of a grey ish area

I only think it just makes things too complicated if pieces are moving tbh. For example, if SIU traded hicks for an nba player, he technically wouldn’t be allowed to do that, and keeping track of that just seems like a headache. But I’m also a little drunk so who knows

I think we just need to set the dates for things really clearly and earlier. And I’d be up for something like trades involving the year ago DPs can be traded a week before the mlb season starts as long as everyone has paid dues and it doesn’t involve an nba player.
