Less luck/variance involved. H2H late season is much worse of a problem when teams start giving up. In roto it doesn't matter so much if a team stops setting their lineup, whereas in H2H a dead team is literally handing away victories to their opponents.

My argument for having passing TD's worth 4 and other TD's worth 6 is that it prevents the league from being way to centralized around the QB. This is the default setting on both ESPN and yahoo, and it's this way for a reason. I'm fine if we do NFL H2H, but I think a points league would be a good alternative.

As far as the concern about teams giving up, shouldn't this be mitigated by the overall (3-sport) competition? I assumed we would get 12 pts for finsihg 1st, 11 for 2nd, etc., 1 for 12th in each sport. This would make it matter where in the bottom half you finish (at least unless it's the final league of the year and you are already out of the running for the overall prize). We could even build in extra penalties (negative points?) for finishing last in a sport - this would increase the incentive to keep trying even for teams at the bottom of the standings and also prevent a strategy of totally tanking one sport and concentrating on the other two (which would be a little against the spirit of the league I think).

I agree the overall scores should keep people from tanking or not caring about a sport.. A slight penalty for finishing bottom 3 and slight reward for finishing top 3 might help also..

my counterargument is:

a) im just speaking on behalf of baseball since i dont usually play nba, but h2h baseball is significantly more fun + competitive than roto, and imo that outweighs the variance factor. its much easier to make up a big lead in h2h in 2-3 weeks than in roto
b) i also think that this outweighs the variance given the league structure, of it being dynasty and getting points for overall points etc

i would also recommend something like: (for all sports - for the overall portion)

1st - 10 points
2nd - 8 points
etc etc
8-10th - negative points

and add something like losing some money or maybe a dp if youre last (like a 3rd rd rookie dp or something)

also, there's going to be a period of 3ish months that's just baseball (after basketball and before football)

head 2 head keeps that interesting, and that to me > variance, which i think is evened a bit by the overall points factor

Yep, there's a lot to decide on. Draft rules, pick rules, trading rules, free agent bidding, stats for each league, payouts for each league, rosters, etc. Should start soon in order to get done and organized before MLB season.

I can do either. The only think that I would add is that it either needs to be H2H for all leagues or non H2H. Don't mix them because it would make it harder trying to find an overall winner.

Overall is sort of the roto version of h2h vs weekly totals which is like football h2h.

So if team a beats team b 7-3 in one week then they're 7-3 (overall) as opposed to 1-0 (weekly)

I think you have a point system for 1-12 for the overall
