Would anyone be interested in a 4 team multi-sport dynasty league? I was considering joining one with a bunch of randoms, but figured I would see if there was any interest in starting a 2p2 version first.

Setup would be something like:

4 Sports played each year
- Football
- Baseball
- Basketball
- Hockey

Cost of like $500 per year
- $100 per sport
- $100 toward overall rankings

They are all dynasty leagues so all players are kept.

You can have multi-sport trades. However if it is passed the trade deadline in a sport you acquire a player in, you cannot activate him until the next season.

Specific league rules can be determined if enough interest is shown.

You can obv have co-owners.

What site would we run it on?

Probably a combination of espn and google docs (during offseasons). Obviously since it is just starting any suggestions for sites, rules, etc are more than welcome though.

By the way. I was thinking about this. Since we would need rosters for all sports to start with. Do we have one massive 4 sports draft? Or sport specific drafts? Kinda leaning mega draft (though its going to take a while). Would make for awesome strategy decisions.

My rankings of fantasy knowledge would be
MLB>NFL>NBA>NHL
Multisport draft would be epic. although I'd like to see the prize pool shifted much more to the overall title. League would get lame really fast if you had teams start specializing in 1-2 sports instead of trying to do well overall.

I agree with that. We will need a payout or overall score system that doesn't allow teams to draft 2 great teams and punt the other two. It shouldn't take much. Given the variance of fantasy sports, something like a little more money toward the overall pot or a punishment for coming in bottom 3 should be enough to make it -ev to put all your eggs in a sport or two.

Timing is also super important especially if its dynasty

So what seasons does the draft cover, so we couldn't draft before April bc of the nfl draft but then wed lose the coming MLB season

I would say we start our season with the upcoming baseball season.

And I would actually vote to draft asap and hopefully finish by April. That way all we need to do is have the rookie/free agent drafts in football, hockey and basketball right before their seasons like we would going forward.. For baseball I would vote we have a small minor league team that we would draft after the mega draft (which would not include any mlb minor leaguers)

i'd say draft asap to have finished by MLB start.

I would also throw out it may not be a bad idea to skip hockey. I'll go along with what everyone else wants, but here's my argument.

The hockey labor situation makes drafting hockey more difficult.
hockey is the least popular fantasy speaking.

If you include hockey, there is going to be a point where you have to actively manage nhl, nba, and nfl in Nov/Dec. also nhl, nba, and mlb in Apr/May/June. NFL isn't as bad since its weekend only. But having to do day to day moves on NHL/NBA/MLB is going to be ridiculous. Doing just MLB/NBA is going to be bad enough.
Short of this, I would like to recommend going with weekly roster updates instead of daily.

Realize the idea is all 4 major sports, and i dont' want to ruin the idea of the league, but going NBA/NFL/MLB keeps the 3 biggest fantasy sports, keeps it year round, and (i think) simplifies quite a bit.

I had considered removing Hockey from the equation when I wrote OP. Left it in just to have all 4 accounted for, but if there is enough interest in the league and a majority would prefer to just have the 3, that would be fine too.

Because it is the sport which might get the least amount of focus, I was kind of interested to see if it would help get some hockey people into the league as owners or co-owners though. It might be the easiest sport to build a great team and score good overall points in if others are focused on other 3..

I have a bit of interest, but would favor nfl/mlb/nhl.... I agree that with the overlap, 3 sports would be best, which for me wouldn't include NBA.

Even though they can suck, I think a lot of teams are going to have to have co-owners to deal with the overlaps and less familiar sports (to the owner).. If you arent a big NBA fan you might be able to find a NBA focused co-owner who can handle NBA only moves and consult with you on cross-sport trades

Cool. As we get people signing up we can present 3 and 4 team options. Goal is to find 10-12 teams who are excited about all the sports. Will make the league a ton more interesting.

If you guys want 4 leagues and no NHL what about UFC? Know there was interest in EDF to do a UFC fantasy league

Might be hard to work into the Dynasty Format. Not sure how you could draft and keep fighters and get points for stuff. All the UFC leagues I have seen have been just picking winners..

If anyone has an idea how to do it, or other ideas let me know though..

We could make UFC no add/drops like you can add/drop at the a certain time 1-2 times a year.

Or like NBA where you get a total fights per slot or something

Still not sure what advantage you could get by keeping fighters though. Assume it would be better to just pick up a random under-card fighter who is huge fav then keep someone like badass like GSP who might fight twice a year and against closer competition

Honestly, I'm fine betting on anything, but if its not run through a site it's gonna be hell to keep track of stats and updates and stuff

UFC is easier to keep track of cause its 1-2 times a month

What happens if a guy is injured for a significant amount of time 8+ months, which happens frequently enough to be an issue IMO, especially this past year.

it is not supposed to be easy so I say keep all 4 leagues and no UFC.

although my opinion means nothing because I cannot afford 500 dollars for fantasy league.

500 was just an number I threw out. Would you be interested if it was less money? Or there was someone interested in co-owning and splitting it?

My preference would be $50 for each league and then $100 towards overall winners pot... Makes it a more reasonable $300 IMO and puts more emphasis on the overall standings.
