we can trade 2019 picks once the 2018 season starts, which is when the MLB season begins.

so cant trade until then, probably mid march? whenever we set the beginning of that draft.

also dan/hurp should probably begin to get dues and what not

i would just propose starting the MLB draft on 3/12, since its usually the slowest draft. gives us a solid 2 weeks + a few days of FA before the season starts on 3/29

I don’t think you should really be allowed to have a like, “option for later”, that’s just obviously you wanting to skirt around the rules we have. I’m all for wanting to trade picks earlier but this sets a pretty bad precedent

Agreed, we can set that as a rule now. Considering it wasn't a rule beforehand fine with letting this one through however.

its not the biggest deal in the world, but like, we were just talking about this a couple weeks ago and hurp even said we cant trade picks past 2018 yet, so its just really silly imo

In my opinion that shouldn't be allowed.

why wouldn't it be allowed? Real life teams trade future pick swap options without actually trading the underlying.

We haven’t even paid 2018 dues yet, and this is a fantasy league, not a real life league. Real teams have 1 timeline, we manage 3, so yeah we do need more guidelines.

This is just a way to skirt around a rule we’ve really been practicing forever, it comes up every year. There’s no reason to change it imo

The trade as far as I'd be concerned is Melo for Hurp's NFL 1st, without any right to swap for a pick that we can't trade yet.

I don't think it matters how many timelines we are managing. I think we'd be having the same argument if this is just a dynasty basketball league and you replace "NFL 1st" with any other future NBA considerations

I'm not trying to break things, but I thought this is a way we can structure deals given that the precedent is already set in the NBA, where you can, for example, trade draft picks x years ahead of time (7 I think) and trade pick swap rights.

If what you are saying is true then, then hypothetically, what if Othello/me agreed verbally that the NFL 1st would be collateral to be traded back to me for when the 2018 season starts? Or what if there was no collateral, and I traded Carmelo Anthony for Future Considerations and then when the 2018 season starts, we announce that the Future Considerations is a nba 2018 pick? (Future Considerations is obviously also a concept used in real life trading).

I'm OK if the league thinks this shouldn't be allowed, but I want to clarify what the intent of the rule is and where the line is drawn.

I mean in MLB you can call guys up from AAA and send them back down and we can't in this league so there are clearly differences. In my opinion this is clearly just trying to get around a rule that has been in place since the league started
