MLB Fantasy Baseball $50 Keeper

So we had a nice keeper league that fell apart when the commish disappeared. I'll start a new one.

Details off the top of my head, and I'm amenable to most of this:
  • $50, Yahoo, 5x5, snake draft
  • I'm open to changing the categories a bit if we want, I'm more a fan of TB than HR personally, and QS over Ws.
  • I'll start off by throwing out 5 keepers? I wanna have keepers but don't want it to be super deep, to make the future drafts more valuable. If people want more, it's not a dealbreaker for me
  • I'm open for 10 or 12 teams, doesn't matter to me. Top 3 pay, 60/30/10 payout.
  • I'll escrow - I've run fantasy football leagues for I wanna say 3 years now. Mostly through STTF. Done a lot of betting with guys too if anyone wants references or anything.

Always wanted to try a keeper and the price is right for a fish like me.

In.

Would prefer on base over average, qs over wins, and HR over total bases.

Re: $50 Fantasy Baseball Keeper

Is this H2H or roto?

roster size?

starting positions?

any N/A slots available? (in a keeper league I highly recommend at least 2)

keeper rules? (is there going to be a draft pick cost associated with each keeper, or just straight keep 5 with no cost, indefinitely?)

If rosters are not super shallow, and there are NA spots along with some type of escalating cost for keepers based on draft round or whatever so that there is player turnover, Im probably in.
Depending on draft day/time of course.

id like to do this h2h and standard starting positions (no MI/CI, 3 OFs, 2 Util). not sure if this is a huge deal, but im also more a fan of 8 Ps rather than 2 SP/RP and 4 Ps. also fine making the rosters bigger, adding a util spot and a P spot.

depending on how many keepers, absolutely want at least 2 N/As, that's the biggest draw to me for Yahoo.

keeper rules - id like to do an escalating keeper cost, something like 1st year same round drafted, 2nd year 1 round up, 3rd year 2 rounds up, maybe a max of 4 years? can you do a max?

i think yahoos default is 5 bench spots, id like at least 7, maybe 8?

Re: $50 Fantasy Baseball Keeper

I'd be interested. Been trying to get more experience at Baseball, since my attempts to convince Yahoo that I'm not Canadian and allow me to play Ypro Leagues, have so far been unsuccessful.

I'll play again. # of keepers doesn't matter much to me, but I like the escalating rules we had last year.

+1 to OBP, QS, and TB

sounds totally fine to me. lets people make their own decisions on roster construction

sweet, the NA slots are awesome

you can do a max but Yahoo wont tack it. easy enough to keep a google doc spreadsheet or whatever though.
i would recommend a bit steeper draft round escalation though... by the 4th year, guys who were originally drafted last round should be at least close to the first half of the draft imo.

i think yahoos default is 5 bench spots, id like at least 7, maybe 8?
sounds good, anwhere from 24-27 active roster spots + 2-3 NA slots seems fine
one more thing i'd recommend - using Saves+Holds ratehr than Saves.
It really adds another dimension to the game, and gives value to the best overall RP's rather than just whatever crappy "closer" happens to be getting saves for the Astros this week.

good call on +holds, not sure why i forgot that, im a huge advocate of the hold.

would everyone be ok with:

1) QS over W
2) HLD+SV over SV
3) OBP over AVG
4) TB over HR (this one i imagine has the biggest debate)

how do people feel about 10 vs 12? we have ~2 weeks to draft, so there's not a major rush if we want to wait to get to 12 (which is what id prefer) but last year we ran at 10, so im fine with that too

Im fine with all 4 or just 1-3. either way.

id also be onboard with 6x6 using both W and QS
and using OBP instead of average, plus TB.

( i know both QS and W seems redundant, but dropping W's does hurt RPs even though it doenst seem like itd be a big deal.)

also have to thin about FAAB vs standard waivers, and if there will be a weekly move limit

Yes, Yes, Yes, No.

Also, prefer higher keeper cost after 1st year. Half of round seems to be best IMO. So 8/8/4/2/1 over 5 years.

10vs12 doesn't bother me at all.

for keeper cost, how about 1st year +1 rd, 2nd year +2 rds, 3rd year +4 rds, 4th +8, 5th +10? something like that? ive never done a half round, do you round up for odd rounds? so a 3rd rder costs a 1st next year? seems like it would put an odd (no pun intended) advantage on even rounded drafted guys

Re: $50 Fantasy Baseball Keeper

The +rounds works too. Just need a steeper escalation cost after a few years so someone who lucked box a free agent doesn't get to keep him super cheap for 5+ years.

The half rounds would be rounded up. So 3/3/1/1/1 for 5 years. I don't mind having keeper cost the same round for the first year as there has to be a good reward for good drafting imo.

Re: $50 Fantasy Baseball Keeper

I like Head to Head over Roto, and like the idea of going 6x6 with QS/W as well as HR/TB. But I also, dig the long ball like Bluff said.

Yes to Holds + Saves over saves.

I've never done Free Agent bidding, but wouldn't be a deal breaker for me, I'd actually like to try it.

What would we be doing for Maximum Appearances/Minimum Innings Pitched per week. Keepers need to have an escalating cost imo, but willing to bend to consensus.

I have an irl work friend, who might be interested in joining if we are looking to get to 12 instead of 10.

default is unlimited. 2 of my leageus hae limites with one at 3 adds, and one is 4 adds.

thanks for thinking of things im not too, btw
no problem

for keeper cost, how about 1st year +1 rd, 2nd year +2 rds, 3rd year +4 rds, 4th +8, 5th +10? something like that?
i like this idea. get a few years at nice discount, hten the price jumps closer to (or past) market value so players will get thrown back
ive never done a half round, do you round up for odd rounds? so a 3rd rder costs a 1st next year? seems like it would put an odd (no pun intended) advantage on even rounded drafted guys

Couple other things to consider:

--What if you have multiple players that you wan to keep in the same round? Only allowed if you have multiple picks (assuming draft pick trades are a yes) that round? Or can move players forward a round?

--What happens when a players draft round escalates to 1st round? Only 1 first rounder can be kept?

--Are undrafted FA's kept with the same status as guys drafted in the last round, or do they start off in an earlier round?

--When players are traded does their keeper round status carry over to a new team? (it should imo)

--If a player is originally drafted, but then dropped, and picked up by a new team that same year, is his keeper value based on that of a normal FA, or when he was drafted?

Only mentioning these because they cropped up in both longterm keepers im in and its better to figure it out before the season begins.
