When playing 50/50's is there something to the idea of playing the safer pitcher. I'm gong to use LIrano and everyone keeps saying play Harvey. I understand that Harvey has a good chance to get double digit k's. Liriano also K's quite a few batters and the odds of Philly beating a guy out of a game early have to be much much worse then the Cubs beating up on a pitcher.

going liriano in fd 50/50s too. philly doesnt strike out a ton but man that lineup is awful. in before frenchy 3 run bomb...

There is but too often people equate safe with expensive/stud or they don't consider the value of improved bats that comes with cheaper pitching. Is Carlos Frias better than Matt Harvey? No, but he's a better bet for the W, has decent K potential against a righty heavy Marlins lineup, is pitching in a better park, and lets you get ridiculous bats.

I'm not saying always try to find a cheap pitcher, but in some cases you should be considering it.

pitchers put up more consistent numbers than batters, so want to spend for pitching

depends on the slate too. more games = more options for cheap effective bats

kind of sucks that KCA/Tex prolly gonna rain, lot of cheap bats there.

One of the biggest problems I see with Frias is you're going to be really pushing it to get much more than 5 innings out of him which makes his win probability a lot less than the Dodgers overall win probability.
