We could do it prorated based on the amount of salary still owed.

Probably not, but I'm still trying to get this off the ground. I simply do not have time this week to do anything. I'm going to ask Pecota to take most of it over.

That's a good call. I would also like to offer my support to Karak should he wish to outsource any of the work involved in setting this thing up. Now I'm not an American, so we'd have to keep any outsourcing business very hush hush, but just say the word . . .

Ok how about this: let's hash out an auction system on here. If you guys have time and wouldn't mind... how about writing up a final approach to it and we can compare/contrast and vote on/choose one for the league.

Pecota won't have power due to the snowpocalypse until the end of the week (lol pwnt), so he won't be around too much.

I guess I'd be moody too if I was (were?) stuck in a city full of Penguins fans and no power.

(this, of course, assumes I like that sport with the cold ground and little rubber thing you push around)

Okay, so admittedly I offered to chip in, and then this week has been kinda jammed. Might be able to write something up within the next day or two though. Not that the auction system needs to be (or should be) complicated. I think we're mostly thinking of something along the line of what iamawesomer proposed.

problem with those (yahoo applet) kind of auctions is that everyone still needs to be there. in the format iamawesomer posted we just have a thread open in here for a couple weeks and get it done leisurely.

Sorry guys, I'm going to have to back out. My co-manager backed out and I don't think I'll have enough time this summer to dedicate. Seemed like there was interest for people looking for open spots.

The Player Auction

• Each team must acquire 25 players at a total cost not to exceed $100,000,000. A team need not spend the maximum.
• Every owner will present a player to be bid on starting at 12:00pm est on [Starting Date]. Each owner may start the bidding with any amount of $400,000 or greater. Every other day owners will present another player to be bid on.
There will be numerous players in the bidding process at all times, until every team is filled with players. The bidding on a player ends when 24 hours has passed since the last bid on him.
• No team may make a bid for a player it cannot afford. For example, a team with $3M left and two openings on its roster is limited to a maximum bid of $2M for one player.
• Any person is eligible to be drafted.

Pretty straight forward. We just make a thread (this forum seems like it'd be fine for it) and go at it. We need to auction 300 players (and draft 120 minor leaguers in a separate draft) by April 4th. If we stuck to players getting nominated every other day it would take 50 days, but we can nominate more towards the end to make it fit in time.

Did I miss anything?

was looking over league settings, and i think roster size/starters is off, this is how we have it currently:

Seems like a ton of bench players, might aswell have some more players starting. 4 OF? 2 UTIL? 2 generic pitcher slots? that'd leave 5 bench spots.

Thank you for doing this.

Sounds great except that if we do the bidding publicly, we need anti-sniping rules. So any bid made in the final 30 minutes of the auction will extend the auction another 30 minutes.

And if you won't be around for a night, I have no issues assigning someone outside of the league to be your proxy.

karak there's no such thing as sniping, the player only expires when there's been 24 hours since the last bid.
