Agreed, I would rather draft even though 2x auction would be fun

When you say you all would prefer a draft, do you mean an auction within a one-shot draft format (like, everyone just bids on a player all at once, done, move on to the next pick/player)? Or just a straight up draft pick with a pre-set player value? I'm asking with the valuation of players and the team cap concept in mind.

I am not thinking clearly, if we are doing player salaries I guess we need to do an auction to establish value. Is there any other way?

I've seen plenty of pre-established values for players. I'm not sure if they're based on average draft rank or stat rankings, probably depends. That's one way, off the top of my head. That way, you could just draft straight up and each owner would just be responsible for keeping track of their cap hit as they go.

I like the auction aspect way more since we're doing a dynasty/have to conform to a salary cap. We can do a normal-type draft thread for the minor leagues.

Getting 12 of us online is an issue, but that's soemthing every league has to deal with - and there are 'auto-pilot' options for those that can't be there.

CBS Auction FAQ

or we could do something similar to how mmbt0ne did the NFL dynasty auction. Maybe even ask him if we can use his system. that would stretch it out over a month or however long we want to, and could let everyone be active for the auction.

NFL Auction Draft in SE

edit:

i think i'd prefer the mmmbt0ne system. releasing however many players a day we need to to fit it in the timeframe. single bid, silent auction ftw.

A draft with preset values would be okay. You'd be basically drafting surplus value, not overall value, which would be more equitably distributed (I'm guessing), and you'd still get to take advantage of players where your value differs from consensus, just not quite as much as you'd be able to with an auction..

But I'd still prefer an auction.

it's a fun thread to read through, but yea, they had like ~30 players released every 24 hours that could be silent bid on. High bid after 24 hours wins, next batch released.

One format I've seen to do this is use player's real life salary and have $150MM cap or whatever. Pretty easy to at least monitor salaries thanks to Cot's Blog

I don't like this idea, because baseball real salaries aren't representative of real value often and, furthermore, it creates odd dynamics when a baseball FA signs and a fantasy league owner has to make a waive/keep decision or something.

I'd prefer to do the silent auction, but most seem against that. If y'all are against that, then it has to be a standard snake draft.

How do we set salaries with a snake draft? I have no idea.

Please reconsider the silent auction, but if a majority of you don't let it, then we have no choice otherwise.

Yeah I'm about to get reeeeeal busy so if you've got a waiting list you can take 2 from it or you could just take me and f60 off and you have a 10 team league.

Obviously I am not in this league but I have been following along with it. The reason I bailed was because a bunch of my buddies asked for a very similar league like this to be set up.

We are debating the exact same things you guys are with regard to Auction/standard and if its a standard draft can we have some sort of salary cap, if a salary cap then how to we determine the players values if its not an auction?

One thing that someone proposed that I thought was a decent idea was going by one websites avg player value list and doing a standard draft with a salary cap...

For ex, the league is getting started and you declare that cbs sportslines list is the "bible" and we will refer to that list every season on whatever date and that will be used for that particular seasons player salary and owners have to work around that with $xxx cap. I may not be explaining this right, im having a hard time making this post on my phone.

I'll take your spot, as long as the league is roto. I was supposed to be one of the original owners anyway, last I heard from Karak I was going to be kept updated but apparently we lost touch somehow.

As for the league, if everyone wants to do an auction league, I suggest ESPN because it's free and just as good as CBS, or better (I, and many other avid fantasy players, have experienced many problems with CBS auction software).

If we want to do minors, we can simply hold a separate minor league draft here or on a unique message board, and keep a master list of minors rosters as a note on the ESPN league page.

I have run several fantasy leagues for 2p2'ers, in addition to several others, so Karak or Pecota, if you guys would like any help or input, just let me know.
