hey, auction is live. i emailed everyone through ESPN, but those are easy to overlook, hope everyone either sees that, this or slack.

gogogo

oh and point out any discrepancies you might see with rosters. there are a couple of players we have rostered that for some reason arent listed on couchmanagers so i put a placeholder in for them. forget who off the top of my head though.

Quick question about cuts. I didn’t realize Alex Meyer was even on my team. He wasn’t on the 2018 roster tab because I had too many guys. Is it too late to cut him?

Ok, ya that makes sense. I'll remove him from spreadsheet. Exit will have to remove from auction roster, assuming he still can. One way or another it will get worked out for you.

Anyone know why the draft is telling ive reached my max? I am leading on 5 players but have 6 spots open.. it won't let me bid

Is it possible your total max was too much? Meaning even though you may be winning a player at 100, for example, if you entered a max bid of 150, you currently have 150 tied up, not 100.

Maybe! Though I haven’t made any big bids and I have more than 300 bucks left

it's because the software forces you to fill every position. I can work around that and give you a placeholder 2B if you're trying not to bid on a 2B, just let me know.

ah that makes sense. i think i should be good, though once Smoak gets put on Levarkin's team it may do the same thing for 1B

Just throwing out an idea for future consideration, it wouldn't work right now since teams have already made moves to acquire rookie picks without this as an option, but would it work to have an extra round of supplemental rookie picks auctioned off? Each pick 6.1 - 6.13 (or fewer or more, idk) would go to the highest bidder. Don't even know they'd be utilized every season, but it would at least provide additional liquidity in the market. We used to have lightning round picks to bring up every minor league roster to a floor of 10 players, which I agree was probably not the fairest way to go about it, but auctioning off additional picks would allow this added liquidity to go for fair market value instead of a heavy discount, and it would allow teams who either graduate players or have bad luck in the minor league crap shoot the option to restock their system in a more reasonable period of time. Thoughts?

seems interesting to me. would give rebuilding teams another source to get rid of some of their excess $, which seems better to me than it just going to contending teams through trades.

would have to work out a bunch of mechanics, but i'm open to the idea for sure.

I think we’d need to increase minors rosters for this to work. Otherwise it’s just another incentive for people to burn their whole farm and not suffer much of a consequence because it’s easy to restock. That’s why we got rid of the bonus round in the first place.

The bonus round incentivized selling draft picks if your minor league roster had fewer than 10 players, because at a certain point the difference between prospects approaches zero, so selling a pick for any return made sense since it would be replaced with a bonus round pick.
The difference with a limited auction format is you do not know ahead of time what the replacement cost will be for a pick you sell, so the incentive to sell the farm is not nearly as great.

One way for every team to have access to the additional picks is the minor league cap could remain 20 *except* for supplemental round picks. So, teams with 16-20 minor league players heading into a draft would not have picks in all rounds 1-5, due to the cap, but would still be able to participate in the supplemental round auction if they wanted to acquire additional prospects. This would eliminate the potential problem of, say, one team having space under the cap of 20 after the standard five rounds and being left with whatever number of $4 draft picks.

I'd be open to something like this too. Nice idea. I would like to see a real cost to do this though.

Say .. blind bidding for the 6.1 pick with a $25 minimum (just throwing a number out there). Once you win the pick you can't trade it and have to hold the player until the next off-season to eliminate any gaming of the system

Maybe to faciliate getting through this when you "bid" you turn in how many bids and what prices. So for example I could bid $35/$30/$26 because I want at least three picks. My three picks would be ranked among all the bids accordingly.

I still don't really get what you guys are talking about, but I'm cool with whatever.

Is it my pick?
