Can we set the order for the minors draft now? I'd like to be able to consider that when filling out the rest of my team. I'd be fine just starting the draft now too, or as soon as you guys want to. Reverse snake right?

I'd like to wait to set the draft order so the people that lucksack the best positions don't get more of an advantage than that would already give them.

and I think the rookie draft really needs to start after this one is finished

I also think REQUIRING people to carry 8 bench players seems like a bit much. If it were up to me I'd lower it to 4-6, how do people feel about that? That is NOT a change I feel comfortable unilaterally instituting.

To simplify:

1. Proposed option: $4 contracts waived without penalty in first 3 weeks.

Alternative option: $4 contracts waived without penalty at any time BEFORE the trade deadline up to 4 times per season.

2. Proposed option: You can stop drafting in the rookie draft at any time and not continue.

Alternative option: You draft the entire way through making all 10 picks, but can pick and choose who to sign. Unsigned players are rolled back into the talent pool.

No change is also an option for both 1 and 2.
1. I like alternate option

2. no change, I think this is bailing out people who overspent in the draft early and I really like being forced to have a minor league roster that you have to budget for.

I am attached to the idea of keeping 40 players on each roster. One of the things that made me sign up for this league is how deep it is.

very good points on both counts... definitely something to consider.

based on that i withdraw my proposal of toning down the bench spots, but ill leave the other 2.

As discussed in auction chat, we need to undo the offending bids. Exitonly - is it possible to manually edit bids in the auction?

I enjoyed the PECOTA MeTrain dialogue.

1) Alternate.

2) No change. Really, the idea here (which I like) is to model this after real baseball in a number of respects, which means that you must have 25 (or however many) men on your roster, and you must have a minor league system. Actually, do teams have to have a minor league system? Surely at some level.

Also, the minor league is nice for saving teams like Thayer from themselves, and giving them some kind of hope now that they've irreparably pooched the auction.

1) Alternative

2) Nothing > Proposed > Alternative

In my opinion, If we take away the prospect draft and the deep benches this becomes a normal fantasy league. I also think it would be very hard for someone to sell their team a year or two down the road if they daft zero prospects.

I can restart the bidding on a player that Thayer bid on, but I can't cancel just his bid.

So let me know

I have an idea for free agent pick ups I wanted to run by everybody.

Originally I was going to budget my team for $81 million or under. However, once things got going and I saw multiple players I had targeted like Gordon Beckham for example at $3.2 mil go for $4.6 mil when I tried to go as high as I thought I could possibly go and still stay under $81 mil at $4.1 mil. Once all of that happened I started to say F*** trying to stay under $81 mil, basically no one is being smart with their money and I can't stay competitive without doing the same.

So.... My new plan is to spend every last penny up until $96 mil and get everybody I had left on my target list at least as many as possible. I think Jokes will be under $96 mil, but I dont know who else will be. If another team is its likely they're not more than $5 mil under.

I like an idea of being able to still go out and acquire free agents from the waiver wire as they become available, but obv we can't just say hey everyone gets an extra $10 mil to spend or anything for free. I propose that all teams (including Jokes if he so wishes) can spend up to $110 mil, but any amount of $400k thats spent over the $100 mil mark costs teams $5. That means it gets very expensive to go after free agents if you're at $100 mil already and most likely you can't offer more than $400k to get them. Which means that Jokes would still be able to outbid most ppl for free agents, especially if he keeps $15 mil in reserve, he could basically out bid anyone still.

So what does everyone think about that idea?

I think karak's proposal already covers this.

if you have 4 free waives you wont have an issue picking up free agents.

not the best logic. if you don't think it's smart don't do it.

k i stopped the auctions on thayer's last two bids that put him over-budget. Denard Span and Adam Joners are back into the nomination pool.

this was a pain in the ass so i would appreciate if people made sure they have ($4 x Roster Spots to Fill) available.

that works fine if you're able to pick up FAs for $400k, I just don't think thats very realistic.

I think there's 30-40 players that you need to have at least 2 to 3 of them on your team to have a realistic chance to win the league. You can be smart with your money all you want, but good luck winning with the 41st best player as your best player.

You can't be saying that everyone is going to be at the cap, but at the same time say free agents will be going for more than 400k.

There will obv be the occasional FA that came out of nowhere and creates a lot of demand in the time between transactions are processed (weekly, i think we decided), but i'd say you'd very often just be bidding against yourself for free agents. feel free to pay them more though.
