I'm currently conducting an experiment to see if people let me get the same sick value on Haren. I'd say yes, considering no one has even kicked the tires on him yet.

I'm not saying I'm definitely looking to move Tim Lincecum, but I'll listen to offers. I'd be looking for a big name hitter or above average pitcher and you're willing to take on the etc salary.

QUICK POLL:

How many people would draft completely different if they had this draft to do over again?

I'll answer first I would do almost everything different.

Interesting question. I knew a lot of the superstars going early were way overvalued, and I definitely paid more for Longoria than what I had him valued at. On the other hand, I felt like it would be difficult to build a team without a true stud superstar, and it was impossible to get one of those without overpaying. So I figured I would overpay for one (who was young enough to improve and potentially surpass expectations), but slow down a little after that. I feel it's still too early to tell whether this was the right strategy or not.

[x] confirm bids before sending

that's about it. i'd like $91 back now. also i was content with Halladay's price, but with the prices Haren CC and Greinke went for i don't see how i can still be fine with it.

Sizemore and Granderson are on the market. I'm not in a position to cover part of an outgoing contract, but I will give consideration to a lesser skilled player under a cheaper contract. I'll also accept draft picks. I'll consider any serious offer, but given how early it is I may decide to just stay put.

Why would anyone trade with you in this scenario at the current time?

Honestly, no one. They either lack the flexibility or don't know what type of resources/players they'll have by the start of the season.

However, I thought I'd get a head start in the event someone wants to get creative and make a deal at some point prior to opening day. Given my current payroll structure and types of players I have, I doubt my team will be able to contend this year, so those two are on the block for the time being.

Rookie rules proposal(s):

1) Any rookie drafted in this initial draft may be optioned up at any point in the season. I propose amending the rules to: any rookie (on your minor league roster) who meets ML eligibility at any time can be optioned up at that time. No reason to wait for the next rookie draft.

I also propose that all minimum salary contracts ($4) may be waived WITHOUT PENALTY at any point in the first 3 weeks of the season. So if you fill your roster with some garbage $4 outfielder, then draft Austin Jackson in the rookie draft... you can waive that garbage $4 and pop Ajax on the roster instead... no penalty. After 3 weeks you gotta pay them out for the rest of the season.

Alternative suggestion: you get 4 "free waives" of minimum salary contracts each season. At any point in the season you may waive a $4 contract for free up to 4 times... we can cut this option off at the trade deadline if we want to.

2) All teams will participate in the rookie draft and you must sign anyone you pick. However, you may drop out of the rookie draft at any time and stop signing guys. So you can stop after pick 3 and only have to contribute 1.2 mil. The rest of the 4 mil set aside for the rookies can be spent during the regular season.

Alternative suggestion: everyone participates in the rookie draft and everyone drafts 10 guys. After that there is a one week "signing period" in which you decide who of your 10 to sign and who not to sign. Anyone you do NOT sign is released back into the rookie pool and may only be actively added to a roster 1) if they are called up to the major leagues and then go through the waiver add process WHILE THEY ARE STILL IN THE MAJORS (or, alternatively, when they reach non-rookie status in the majors) or 2) if they are drafted in the next year's rookie draft.

So I ask everyone to vote on each proposition.

For proposition one, vote for one of three options: proposed solution, alternative proposed solution, or no change.

For proposition two, vote for one of three options: proposed solution, alternative proposed solution, or no change.

Please let me know in the next 48 hours or so. If you do not vote, then I'm voting for you. My rationale for this is if I take the time to make the proposals and put them together, you can take the 30 seconds to vote or you can have me vote for you :-P.

I'm more or less unilaterally instituting the rule that rookies can be added to a roster at any time once they become ML eligible assuming they are on your minor league roster... unless there is a huge outcry against this.

To simplify:

1. Proposed option: $4 contracts waived without penalty in first 3 weeks.

Alternative option: $4 contracts waived without penalty at any time BEFORE the trade deadline up to 4 times per season.

2. Proposed option: You can stop drafting in the rookie draft at any time and not continue.

Alternative option: You draft the entire way through making all 10 picks, but can pick and choose who to sign. Unsigned players are rolled back into the talent pool.

No change is also an option for both 1 and 2.

Addendum to the $4 drop (this applies to all options so it doesn't matter): intsead of waiving only $4 contracts... you can waive $4 of any contract you cut. So if you cut a $5 contract during the free period OR using one of your free drops, you only have to pay $1 of the salary out the rest of the season.

In #2 you can free up to $40 in salary by drafting/signing no/limited rookies.

gotcha. changed my vote on that one. Can people just spend the whole 100M in the auction now, and then just skip the rookie draft?

Too late to change the auction which was set at 960. So any money saved by skipping on the minor leaguers would be for free agent/trade room.
