Last year the trade deadline was August 19. That's next Sunday, seems like as good a date as any.

The rule we've gone with in the past is just get the final trade posted in the thread by 11:59pm that day.

In future years I'd like to see minor league rosters expanded a bit at some point in the future, maybe keep the 10 round draft but be able to have 15-20 players on the roster at any one time. Oftentimes this year I have had a hard time trading pics or prospects because no one has room on their roster.

If people are interested I think it would be cool to do some sort of Rule 5 draft to go along with these expanded rosters.

Agree with increasing prospect roster size a bit. I'd be in favour of deeper minors anyway but even if people don't want too much more depth, going to 15 instead of 10 would be good.

I'll add the minors expansion to the list of rule proposals I've been tracking. At some point during the off-season we can have an official vote about adding them into the rules permanently.

General Query

Do people still follow the league much this late in the season? I can see why interest would decline as the standings solidify.

Is there anything the commissioners can do to stoke additional interest in the league?

I dunno, it's a six-month season, interest will come and go. I was disengaged for a bit around July but have come back around. The payout structure helps to keep interest a lot, I think: I'm fairly engaged in my battle for fourth (and is third completely out of reach?), and of course there's a strong incentive to stay out of the basement. I think as much as can be done is in place, and I suspect that most of the rest is inevitable. Happy to hear ideas though.

The way the league is structured doesn't make it easy to trade for a few reasons. Firstly, people don't want to move their studs because they need them for next year even if their team sucks this year. Secondly, there are no rental players pretty much. As well, because you get enough draft picks to fill out your minor roster every year, draft picks outside the first couple of rounds have little value, and it's hard to accumulate a load of elite prospects in order to rebuild. Also, it's difficult to trade when multiple people don't even respond to trade inquiries.

Just bumping to pay respects to Banhammer. 122 points, in this format, is pretty incredible. Even danvh, despite selling every asset he had, is not nearly as sucky as Banhammer is awesome.

Banhammer put a great team together, but he's getting some career/breakout years out of a few guys that have really let him hold that lead. The fact that he's dominated in all categories for most of the year shows some skill in putting the roster together though.
