I think I'd make the roster spots obligatory. The 7 RPs is intended to mirror present day MLB roster building.

Think I'd insist on CF for CF, any OF for RF/LF and Util would be any position player. Would also stipulate that only active MLBers are rosterable to protect from loading rosters with non-actives.

I'd prefer roto, but I haven't thought that far ahead. Not sure how you could score defense to actually reflect strong defense.
