gambling/drugs/prostitution should all be legal with no restrictions (other than age limits, imo which you may disagree with)

that they're not is a frustratingly slow process bc old conservative people are dying off slower and slower and vote-by-mail is a thing. DFS Industry Discussion Thread

Re: DFS Industry Discussion Thread

Any concern NBA cash games drying up fast?

Last year it seemed 80% was pretty rare on a full slate and only when an obvious back up was starting because of an injury like Schroeder/Teague, or Westbrook when Durant was out. This year it seems every night my team has 2 or 3 guys 75% and up and the rest about 50%.

Seems to be getting like MLB cash games at $25 and up where everyone has a decent lineup. I mean lets face it the DFS learning curve isn't that hard to be good at like say poker.

Quick question...does anyone know if you have the same lineup as an opponent on DK if they refund you the rake?

Overall FD numbers for NBA have been high, wish I could play (I'm in NV now, hope all is well Brian.)

Yeah I mean it's not hard. Leave people alone. If people consent, then stay out of their business.

The only "arguments" I've heard in favor of banning dfs have been

1. I hate the commercials. Thank God it's banned. Yeah, okay. I hate commercials for beer, cialis, and trucks. Let's ban them too.

2. It's rigged, players/refs can take a dive/fake an injury or make a bad call for 50k and then what? Well, great, I'm well aware of that risk, if you can even call it a risk, and I still choose to play because it's fun and I think I have an edge. Why should it be banned again?

3. Something something gambling addiction something something consumer protection something something. But let's keep the lottery, horse racing and stock trading legal!

4. "zOmg Insider trading!!!!1" If you don't play dfs, shut the hell up and mind your own business. If you do play, and feel insider trading is a real risk, you have several options short of "let's ban it for everyone" including switching sites, personally quitting until you're sure the insider trading has stopped, or simply improving your game to overcome this so called huge issue.

Just look at the articles and comments that are pro-ban or even pro-regulation and you find a whole lot of stupid, and a whole lot of nanny state.

I'm with you dude. Why the **** do people who don't even play care what I do with my money that I've worked hard in my life to earn. Sorry you don't have enough discretionary income in your life.

Because, dfs commercials are annoying, yo. And that person didn't really win a million and get paid. Nope. Didn't happen. (people seriously believe it's a scam and no one could possibly deposit $50 and win a gpp. Unlikely, of course. But it does happen)

If you read Mendez' decision you can figure out why the NYAGs team was so ill prepared for the hearing.Mendez was so in the tank for the AG they could have stayed up all night drinking shots and gotten the same decision. The major reason he cited for upholding the AGs complaint was ''to protect those with addictions'',really! Does this schmuck realize that NY has legalized every form of gambling besides cock fights and sports? The NYT rolled out one degen and the AG quoted anecdotal claims from a letter released from a problem gambling organization with no hard facts. This is how legal decisions are made?

Payments by carrier pigeons is going to add an entirely new skill element to DFS.

FD sent an email to people from NY saying "Welcome Back, you can play DFS again, but you cannot deposit or withdraw. Have fun"

There's never any science behind the addiction arguments either, it's just "this might create a bunch of new gambling addicts," even though the most recent research doesn't support that at all.

Part of Fanduel email to NY customers -

"We are pleased to report that this afternoon, an appellate court in New York granted our request for an emergency stay of the injunction issued this morning. Based on the appellate court's ruling, New Yorkers can continue to enjoy FanDuel contests while the legal process moves forward.

Here is what that means for you:

First, if you have funds currently deposited on FanDuel, you can resume play this weekend. Our team has removed the block on New York and you should be able to access the site on all platforms.

Second, we unfortunately are not accepting new deposits from players in New York at this time. We continue to evaluate the situation and will provide you an update as soon as we have any changes to announce...

The only people from NY who can still play had $ leftover on the site post-ban.

Yeah its probably easier for them operationally as it is so unlikely this gets over turned on appeal. If you have money on, pay us rake; if you don't we don't want to deal with banning you later

I read this as, don't worry about going to NY this holiday season, you can still access your FD account.

What's the difficulty of moving and advertising a .net of free games like the poker sites did? People are using Bovada without problems. Or, I guess, how hasn't Bovada gotten into the DFS game?

DFS is heading down a path to express legalization. To move out of NY and operate despite the injunction would be to fork manure down their own well, not a +EV strategy.

The time seems right to stop dancing around pretending that the UIGEA was a stay out of jail free card under existing State gambling laws. Get to lobbying for legislation at the State level and at the federal level, to amend PASPA to provide for real States' Rights regarding sportsbetting and DFS.

Keep in mind the status of these same companies in the UK, where they received real money gaming licenses. The NFL should man up and admit its fan base LOVES to gamble on its games.
