Since the sites contend they are contests the have to announce the prizes in advance. But the good part of they cap the number of entries so their max rake is near 10-12 percent.

I think the current system works pretty well but obviously the sites might prefer a system where they can rake 10 percent no matter the number of entries.

And horse racing is a terrible product because they rake the prize pool at an unbeatable rake.

This is NOT a Black Friday scenario ....

1. This is NOT a criminal matter.

2. Expect a legislative response at both the State and Federal level.

If anything, it is more a shot across the bow and may lead to legalization of both DFS and sportsbetting at the State level (if PASPA amended in the process, which it really would need to be).

No poker

No dfs (soon enough, probably in every state)

No Muslims (maybe?)

No alcohol if you're 20 years, 364 days old

No weed

Re: DFS Industry Discussion Thread

The whole "is it gambling or not?" debate was a trap from day one. Who cares? That's like debating whether people drink beer to get a buzz, or to make it easier to get laid. People should be able to do what they want, period. No one is hurting anyone else or infringing rights by playing dfs. That's all that would matter in a sane society. But no, we must respect the government, and bow to their decisions from on high. Gimme a break.

Why don't we debate things like "is taxation theft?" or "why should anyone care what some idiot politician in NY says?" even though I realize we "have to" comply in the world as is, at least that might start the wheels turning in some otherwise smart people's heads as to why this sort of thing keeps happening. First poker, now dfs, what's next? Competitive video games? Online dating? Forums? Some new virtual reality thing that everyone enjoys and the government can't get a cut of?

Horse racing take from what I'm seeing is pretty comparable to most poker tournaments. When I get back to my office I'll find the link and post it.

Might be worth it to start an ad campaign in NY geared towards all DFS players. Hit the politicians where it hurts:

Don't buy lottery tickets
Don't buy cigarettes
Don't buy alcohol

Don't buy anything that is heavily taxed, and let's see how they like that.

Probably a good chance PA is discussing something similar right now. Huge physical casino presence, the gaming control board is a bunch of do nothing hacks, and the state loves to have its hand in everything. Just look at the plcb. And the state is broke. Wonder why.

Everything is taxed, that's the problem. Too many people still believe government is the answer.

In a just world, this idiot schidnermann, the judge who made the ruling, and any people who work to enforce it would be hanging from a lamp post as an example to others. Leave me the hell alone.

So, emigrate to Nevada:

There is no ban on DFS, it needs a gaming licensee to run it. Nevada also offers legal mobile sportsbetting, 24 hr casino gaming, et cetera.... I do expect that DFS style gaming will be offered by Nevada gaming licensees soon enough.

Online poker and 24/7 live poker ... against tourists.

There are plenty of Muslims.

24 hours liquor all over town in Clark County, no help on legal age, sorry.

Medical MJ, movement toward legalizing recreational ....

I am pretty sure that "2d Amendment rights" will be protected out here.

Add to that mix; legal brothels in less populated counties, no State income tax, and a pretty robust cash economy and many bitcoin ATMS ..... what are you waiting for ?

So I can play online poker in Nevada against people in PA? New York? Didn't think so.

And I need permission from big brother to play dfs? Awesome.

And I still can't "legally" have a beer with my younger brother if he's not quite 21? Neat.

And I have to pay the cost of moving, go through the hassle of getting a new state drivers license, etc etc. Sounds great.

Good to hear that big brother finally may "allow" recreational marijuana, though. So glad you may finally have permission from your wonderful overlords to possess and smoke a plant.

Re: DFS Industry Discussion Thread

Play stupid games (support gov, vote, beg for "sensible" gov regulation), win stupid prizes (no good poker, no legal sportsbetting outside of Nevada, dfs dying, you can die for having some weed, etc.)

Enjoy, statists.

Charts show about 18 percent for win place show and 25 percent on trifecta type bets. Might be similar to low stakes poker tournaments but for the most part those are not worth playing (wsop will be under 10 percent). But poker and dfs are different animals. Dfs at 18 percent rake is probably not beatable by anyone.

At the current 10-12 percent rake is way too high because of how many entries the best players can enter.

Listen, Poseur. You seem to be the one worried about whether or not what you are doing is legal. That is your choice and your fear, and perhaps probably not even a legal issue for a "mere player" or "mere bettor"

While I do not play poker online, even though it is legal here to do so, and I neither drink alcohol or provide it to minors, nor smoke pot, and I am not advocating or advising you nor anyone to break laws where you reside, you seem woefully unaware of what other folks do in the real world.

Millions of Americans bet sports illegally, something like 30x as many as bet legally in Nevada.

Similarly, millions of Americans also play poker online and buy hooch for their younger Brother.

Quit whining and grow a pair, or stow the high-hatted sarcasm.

Also, don't bother moving to Nevada, I don't think you would like it here.

Re: DFS Industry Discussion Thread

If anyone plays on FantasyUp, sounds like it is basically a ponzi scheme per a RotoGrinders thread. People not getting paid out.

They offer no rake and a 300% deposit bonus so just beware. Figured I'd pass that along.
