It's convenient for the long-term health that for large field GPPs, the average homer donk bettor can luckbox into a huge score by taking a bunch of their favorite teams' players and inadvertently run an appropriately high variance roster. The home team super stack is not a bad play if your favorite team is the Pats and they go off for 45+ or whatever. It would be very very hard for a random casual poker player to luckbox into a decent strategy for a large field poker tournament by following their natural inclination to bet on their hometown players. Not sure how much those kinds of wins are being marketed or the average fish is seeing that.

Paradoxically the same thing that would alarm regulators and legislators is just the kind of thing you want FD/DK to market imo, that it's easy and fun but also it's something like a lottery where the balls fall into the slots over 12 hours on Sunday or whatever. I do think emphasizing the skill and that maxdalury has 2492423358 rosters in your GPP would eventually harm the long-term health of the game since it could alert the casual audience they are -EV instead of doing something random and fun.

Real People, Real Stories, Draft Duel:

It's painful that such carpet bombing marketing has manifested this way. I am obviously pro-everything online (pro freedom) but such videos do feed the both sides of the line to keep the government involved in our lives.

Re: DFS Industry Discussion Thread

Anyone have recommendations for podcast(s) that cover the DFS industry? Not really looking for picks, necessarily, but more industry related or keeping up with the news and what not. Kind of like what the Pokercast is for poker.

I wish there was more stuff like this. Dan Bach does a lot of industry stuff over at RG, like site rep/name player interviews. He does a good job but they are partners with most of the sites.

IMO, regulation is needed, I have always thought this and even tried to spearhead it a few years back. It can only protect the industry while stuff like this keeps popping up:

FanDuel & DraftKings Mishaps

How would adding politicians to the mix turn out good for the consumers? I don't see why "regulation" (a very nebulous term) would be a good thing.

agreed, I haven't followed NJ poker closely, but everything I've read sounds horrible. Geolocation nightmare for starters. and are those poker sites any less shady than FD/DK? Read the NJ thread, I don't think so.

The sites not doing really dumb **** would help a lot though, maybe we could hold off on the superuser scandal for a couple more years please. Some of us haven't gotten rich yet.

If they were dealing from the same deck while someone could see the hands before the cards were dealt it would.

It will protect the industry from wide-sweeping legislation when/if that time comes. (ie UIGEA for poker.)

Execution of geo-location is orthogonal to the regulation discussion. Not sure about the operations comment.

You want regulation to protect the industry from wide-sweeping regulation. It just doesn't make a ton of sense to me.

Right now the status quo seems pretty good. I just think adding politicians into the mix at all will only take things downhill.

Regulation can come in many forms, such as an agreement between all DFS through a unified organization like the FSTA or, conversely, sweeping federal laws that can outlaw activities.

The Online Horse Racing industry (the other exception in UIGEA, bigger than DFS in overall handle), is self-regulated and was before UIGEA (which helped them get the exception.)

I like this a lot more than what I thought you were talking about (the Pigs in Wash "fixing" DFS). I could see FD/DK and maybe even the smaller existing sites using this to limit new competition to google sized companies with an exorbitant DFS gaming license, or other such nonsense.

Re: DFS Industry Discussion Thread

DK cancels all of their MMA events last night because they didn't lock the lineups (had the incorrect start time).

Their solution? 10k freeroll anyone can enter.

Oh and as is usual with DK if you're low volume they gave you a $20 football ticket, but people who put in tons of volume get nothing.

Joe Tall can you start a survey for a DFS players union and spam it in every thread?

I had over 500 entries across multiple tournaments yesterday and my equity was more than a 10k freeroll or a $20 ticket (which I didn't get anyway)

not that I am saying I agree with what they did... but terms and conditions are present for a reason for occurrences like that.

Re: DFS Industry Discussion Thread

By law theyre supposed to run all tournaments with guaranteed prize pools

We need some sort of alliance of players who can take our money to defend our rights. Dfs player alliance?

Coming from a sportsbook background if you let sites get away with things like this they'll just keep doing it and screwing the players. Need to send a message otherwise how do we know if one day there is an overlay and wow magically they messed up and it gets canceled.

Most sportsbook were huge scumbags because there was nothing you could do. This week we have a drsftkings employee who has full knowledge of everyones lineups getting 2nd in a fd tournament and now canceling hundreds of thousands of entry fees and making up with it with a freeroll.

Federal regulation banning DFS is imminent.....no doubt about it.
