I highly doubt they did this in many GPPs and I don't see this on the GPPs I'm in.

And flattening the payout structure would be really nice on DK - in some of the GPPs the payouts are super top heavy.

That's interesting, Joe. Could you let me know why you believe the week one numbers were off? I know that the DK numbers were taken 8 seconds before the close, which is obviously not ideal, but I gather that the numbers for the other seven sites were taken bang on the close of entries.

However, of course I am defaulting to defending SuperLobby because I am involved with the company. I would love for you to DM any issues that you have with it, because I know that the team is fully committed to perfecting it.

The best way around it, is to not roster players whose game are most likely to be postponed.

Re: DFS Industry Discussion Thread

does yahoo not know how to score

i have cowboys D and checked my entries. they gave me 10 points, but they had 1 sack, 2 INT, a blocked kick, a fumble recovery, a td, and allowed 10 points

according to their formula i should have 19 points, but i only got 10

they already payed everyone and its a decent $ shift since i would have won a big tournament as a result. support sends canned responses

Maybe Yahoo copied FD so thoroughly that they even included FD's "0 points for a punt block touchdown"

Even if you give 0 for the TD that's still 13.

I think FD corrected the blocked punt for TD thing finally since I got points for it on there

I would take it to Twitter, companies don't like bad social media exposure.

No twitter, but I went through all the teams for the last 2 weeks and actually its not only the Cowboys.

They mis-scored the Eagles this week (gave them 10 points when they should have gotten 8).

Last week they mis-scored 4 teams as well. All on defense, didn't check any offense stats.

Re: DFS Industry Discussion Thread

which ones were wrong week one?

it looks like some bug gave the cowboys/eagles game both 10 as a default. those show on the historical scores too when looking at the team in this weeks game.

i went thru and didnt see any week 1 errors using that history but didnt both to check actual lineups from those games to see if they are different

Re: DFS Industry Discussion Thread

Yeah. That article accurately points out that DFS is a tough nut to crack for casual fans. Eventually they're gonna run out of fish. Its pretty clear that if you don't do your homework, you have very little chance of winning over the long run. And how much research do you want to do if you're only going to spend $5 or $10? Poker provides a much better avenue for small stakes players.

Eventually, I think sites may have to go to a ranking system, where your success may determine the contests you're allowed to enter. Or better yet, as the author suggested, just let us bet on the games themselves, rather than individual performances.

If DK keeps dumping enormous piles of money into advertising, may take a long time to run out of fish.

also, the fact of the matter is that there are plenty of people who are willing to lose $10-50/week during NFL season to have some fun constructing a lineup and stuff. If you've got 1,000,000 NFL fans willing to lose $20 each per week then you have $20mm right there that people are willing to funnel to the winners and the sites per week. For a reference point, about 20mm people watch the national games each week so thats only a 5% conversion rate and people love to gamble.

For that reason, I believe that NFL DFS will survive so long as it is not legislated away. Other sports have a higher skill barrier imo (in that the average player is less informed about who is good and who isn't) and the depth of research required is much higher so these could have trouble growing. For instance, in cfb the totals and spreads are hugely important and not clustered like they are in the NFL and outlier performance from low end players is much rarer as the skill differential between them and the top players is much larger. In baseball and hockey, lineup construction matters a lot. In NBA injury news comes out late and is hugely important.

Even if I knew I was a losing player at DFS I'd prefer to get take-out, a 6 pack, and spend $30 on DFS entries while watching at home with friends and checking my lineups than to go to a sports bar and spend $50 on food and beer while watching the games.

Agreed. Poker is boring as **** if you're not winning so the fish need some victories to stay entertained.

Fantasy football is still complimentary to most people's enjoyment of the game itself. IMO it can still be fun to sweat even if you lose.

Re: DFS Industry Discussion Thread

FYI Yahoo update

We identified the issue and compiled a new set of contest results with the corrected scoring. If any of your entries would have won a greater amount than already disbursed, your account has been credited with the difference and you should have received an email confirming this.

and they actually paid (which was close to 6 figures)

but they changed the scoring rules going forward, so just FYI

what were the 4 teams from week 1? I want to make sure I didn't get ****ed.

also, what are the new scoring changes? I don't see anything of note, but obviously must be misremembering what the previous scoring rules were.

I imagine most casual players just want to treat it the same way they do their local FFB league or office pool. They throw down $20-$100 bucks on a weekend hoping to get lucky and hit a big score while having an extra layer of fun as they watch RedZone with their friends. As long as the sites can keep the big guarantees running, I don't see the appeal dying. Especially when its seems like randoms are taking down the monster GPPs every week cuz their dad really loved Travis Benjamin and they chose all PITT related players etc.

Winning/losing a little or breaking even while watching sports and drinking beer with your friends is more fun than doing the same staring at a computer screen for hours playing poker.........I think.

Yeah pretty sure the guy entering one tournament will always enjoy it more then poker win or lose. It's the recs who enter multiple tournaments with the same lineup that will stop playing. Pretty much the opposite of poker.
